What setup? Cold and bone dry? LOL
Haha. Hopefully some more cold with a LOT more moisture.

Around quarter inch of mix here. Still have light flurries. Holding out hope for Lake Fork to give us a bit of powder today. This reminds me a less severe version of March 2014 here. That event brought much heavier sleet then lake effect powder the next day with highs in the teens.

Okay, enough winter weather for you guys? It's 30F in SW Houston with light rain around. Ready for July now...

Scanning through the upper levels there is actually some decent lift going on. S/W is crossing our region and despite very low dewpoints (not a lot of moisture) because the temperatures are so low, it's saturated. It's happening very close to the surface. Sometimes that's just all it takes.

Set record low max (22) for yesterday and tied record low min (11) for today. Record low max for today should fall as well.
Would’ve been great to get more precip, but this cold wave has been good!
Before 2021, DFW was on a crazy long streak of not breaking or tying any record lows during the winter. Now, we have seen records fall every winter since then. Also, going back 36hrs, all the models were too warm with the Euro and GFS having DFW in the low 20s this morning! The Canadian and its hi-res short-range companion were the only models to come close.
Global Cooling…..

Not sure I could fathom 2 inches of ice. The power outages would be insane.

We got nothing here in Ponder. My youngest (6) saw the flurries last night and woke up thinking we would be playing in snow.
Boy was he mad. And grandma's house in Carrollton has some....

Fort Worth has moved trash to next week, ugh. Seriously, do it Wednesday like over the holidays.
Measured snow. Close to .5 so not bad for a surprise. I literally expected zip.

That's wild, most of the central core metroplex downwind of the lakes is anywhere from 0.5-2". The airport is still getting the best of it.

It's unlikely there would actually be any accumulation for points south and east of Austin due to marginal surface temps and a very warm nose aloft. Heavier rates would actually warm the surface in this type of setup. For points north, it would be a game of inches, how much accumulation is there before temps warm enough to stop accretion? There could be some serious problems as the Canadian has temps in the 20s with freezing rain for a large area but temps warm through the event.

Winter time post are almost exclusively focused on the DFW area.

Yeah it felt like we went through a really long drought of missing record lows, but had plenty of cases where we'd hit record low max temps (not as exciting, I know).
Timing was good for us this time around as well. Today/tomorrow record lows are about as warm as they get in January. And today's record low max (31) is the highest in January.

Yesterday's 16F in the afternoon would have been tied with the coldest January high temperature ever, if not for the timing it being warmer midnight before. So essentially we just experienced the coldest peak January day! I'm starting to think 20 might be a stretch today...

Got a very light glazing of ice in the Hill Country west of New Braunfels. Just not enough moisture to really have much impact on the roads, but enough to look like winter outside.
Congrats to those that cashed in on the lake effect snow in DFW.

I see most forecasts call for it to get sunny again fairly soon. Will be curious to see how that verifies today into tomorrow.
