^^^That's The Exorcist.

Anybody in DFW feel it? I didn't in the mid-cities, but did hear a long rumble during light rain well after the storm line had passed. I assumed it was thunder but also remember thinking it a bit odd how long it was without a big crescendo. We had some thunder and lightning later during the light rain, so I'd guess it was thunder, but not certain.

Cold in Alaska = warm over the lower 48. Start to be concerned about cold down here when it's very warm in Alaska, as it was during the brutally cold winter of 1976-1977. Many of you were not around then. It was so cold across the U.S. that the Mississippi froze all the way down to St. Louis. Ice flows passed New Orleans in the spring. It snowed in Miami and the Keys. Meanwhile, U.S. troops in Alaska for winter survival training were suffering from heat exhaustion.

Punxatawney Phil is on watch atop my wall. He says winter is nearly over.

Correct. I was just interested in how cold it currently is in Alaska (my late father was stationed there in the 1960s and endured a brutal cold snap like the current one) and in where this air might eventually end up.

Spann: “ At some point this air will have to move, and the weather will turn much colder over the contiguous U.S. How cold? When does it arrive in the southern states? Will there be any "winter mischief"? Nobody knows those answers, but just understand it will turn cold again later in February. Most likely at some point over the last 10 days of the month.”

I hate leap year. Why an extra day of February, of all months? Why not add another day to June so it is equal to July and August? Every year, when February comes, I look forward to the warm days of spring and summer, which aren't far away.

Looking at a synopsis for Anchorage in 1976 and 1977, the temps don't reflect big anomalies, but this website linked below is not giving much data. What Alaskan heat are you referring to?

I’ve already had a couple of crane flies appear in the garage. Spring is coming.

The last thing I'd need in College Station is another day in July with 112°F and no rain. lol Day after day after day last summer.

Probably below normal, but not frigid. Maybe a light freeze for a couple of nights in College Station. There's too much brown between Texas and the Canadian border.
