that area on west could see blizzard or near blizzard conditions this weekend if this verifies. We're talking about from the Des Moines to Omaha and Denver corridor.

I hope you have your snow shovel (or better yet, snow blower) ready Jacki. This looks like it could be a nice snowstorm for your area! 8-)

12z Eta is out, and looks pretty different from the 0z Aviation. Phasing occurs much later/further east. I would expect that to bring the worst weather further north and east, but I'm not looking at specifics yet for this one since, well, it's just going to give me alot of hot air. Actually could be some decent LES behind it, maybe for the buffalo southtowns for the first time this winter. It's really too early to know that for sure tho. In any case, even if this storm isn't affecting you in particular, you might want to pay attention. Any strong system like this one, in a transitional pattern, can lead to some changes...hence how this system acts could 'lay the tracks' for any storm systems to follow in the next couple weeks, and determine how much winter weather we see.

I have some family who moved to St. Louis in early Summer. They have lived in the South all their life(New Orleans and Tampa). They have never seen snow. How much of a shock are they in for with winters in the St. Louis area? I lived in Dallas and saw my share of freezing rain/sleet/snow and bitter cold. Are the roads plowed regularly and do you need tire chains?
