I am somewhere over 10 severe thunderstorm warnings at my house since Thursday with many more in the couple weeks before that. This has been a wild late spring. Linemen can't fix existing issues before more poles come down. Hoping tomorrow morning will be the end of the streak but I won't bet on it.

Unbelievable heat in parts of the state for early June while other parts getting drenched.

Buckle up. Seems to be par for the course nowadays.

Severe thunderstorm warning here for yet another MCS. Has pretty much been a daily occurrence the last few days.

Not that I'm complaining 8-)

The MCS is outflow dominant, which is a good thing.

But it has reached here and those winds mean businesss. Easily getting 50 MPH gusts.

Spoke too sonn.

Severe Thunderstorm Warning for the NE half of the Metroplex with 65 MPH winds.

We're getting hit pretty good here in Plano right now.

Vivid lightning, but oddly enough, not much thunder.

This isn't unusual for summer, actually not that uncommon. A lot of heat in the 90s and high dews will do that. But storm mode and shear are not what it is during Spring.

Good: Saw fireflies last week

Bad: Got swarmed and bit by mosquitoes this morning. Can't think of the last time I was bit in DFW, it's been many years. I'm ready to shut off the faucet until mid-Sept. Don't care if it gets hot, just give me dry, dry, and dry the rest of the summer. Very manageable if the afternoon dew points are mid-60's or less (even 68 is pretty much ok).

While not unprecedented, it's definitely unusual for DFW.

Higher values than that have only been observed 12 other times for MUCAPE, 4 other times for MLCAPE and 6 other times for SBCAPE since 1949.

That said, it's also normally pretty difficult getting organized strong/severe storms to conicide with such extreme instability levels here, and it's happened several times now in the past week (twice at diurnal minimum).

The temperature swing yesterday was also wild.

Much of DFW was in the upper 60s / low 70s as late as 10am and socked in low clouds through early afternoon after another OFB blew through with an extended period of drizzle.

Despite that *AND* the elevated (near-record breaking) dewpoints, highs still managed to recover to the low/mid 90s area wide.

It's definitely giving shades of the way June 2023 started.

Yeah, that's a high number but my point was we see >4k CAPE throughout the state in the summertime. Heat and high dews almost always is, it's all about time of year and potential shear that utilizes all that CAPE, otherwise it's just a number and how juicy the air is. You can have less than 3k CAPE and have an all out outbreak as well with the right modes.

I agree with your overall point.

I was just emphasizing the fact, with historical data, that CAPE values as high as 7K J/KG specifically are in fact unusual for DFW at any time of the year in any setup.

Dangerous heatwave hits US from Texas to California with grim records expected

With the official start of summer still weeks away, a potentially record-setting heatwave is cooking the south-western US, causing dangerous conditions far earlier than normal.

Excessive-heat warnings have been issued from the southern tip of Texas across Arizona and Nevada, and up through the center of California to the northern part of the state, as more than 36 million people across the country brace for days of potentially life-threatening temperatures. Affected areas of California could see conditions of 30F higher than normal for this time of year, as south-west cities, including Phoenix and Las Vegas, prepare to hit peaks above 110F.

Experts have warned this could be just the start of another record-smashing season with the potential to usurp 2023 as the world’s hottest year. A three-month outlook on seasonal temperatures published by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (Noaa) in mid-May forecasts above-average temperatures for most of the country through the summer.

If past history is any indication, as hot as this Summer may be, it may very well be a cakewalk compared to what's in store next year...

BTW, DFW didn't observe its first 100*F day (eventually ending up in the top 5 ranking for total number of days in a year) until 6/25. Just FWIW...
