This is more like a March or April super typhoon in the Western Pacific - that would be the closest equivalency.

We're going to be talking about Beryl for decades. This is absolutely insane.

Incredible. She may not be done either. The CDO continues to look better and grays are showing up in the Dvorak imagery.

In every single hurricane season before this, this region will either have completely nothing or a messy TS that is sheared to death in the eastern Caribbean. Climatology is out the window right now.

19 years later, we've finally found the answer to the question "will the Atlantic ever have a storm that beats Emily"

Unless explicitly stated, all info in my posts is based on my own opinions and observations. Tropical storms and hurricanes can be extremely dangerous. Do not think you can beat Mother Nature. Refer to an accredited weather research agency or meteorologist if you need to make serious decisions regarding an approaching storm.

It's also the first operational Category 5 hurricane in July. Wow just wow.

I am by no means a professional. DO NOT look at my forecasts for official information or make decisions based on what I post.

Goal: to become a registered expert over tropical and subtropical cyclones.

While I think she's been a category 5 for a bit now, it's still absolutely insane to see an official Atlantic category 5 this early in the season. When you're breaking records from 2005 and 1933...

An early-season long tracking Cat5 in the basin's main development region is very telling.

True; Emily was only assessed operational as a Category 4. Post-season analysis upgraded Emily to a Category 5.

Will conditions be conducive in the Gulf of Mexico or more hostile? Just wondering what things may look like in case a more northerly track across the Yucatan prevails.

Concerning for Jamaica. Guidance nudging it very close if not over the island. Not sure how strong it'll be by then.
