Unusual Snowfall in West

Unusual Snowfall in West
7AM PST, November 20, 2003

Much cooler air continued to spill into the northwest and toward the northern Rockies early Thursday, but this first assault was only a precursor to a much colder air mass waiting in the wings. A storm over the northern Rockies was forming on the leading edge of the cooler air and bringing in Pacific moisture, though the extreme precipitation totals earlier this week in the Pacific northwest will not be duplicated.

Winter storm warnings were in effect from the Cascades of Washington and Oregon to the Sawtooh Mountains of Idaho and the Tetons of Wyoming. More than a foot of snow is possible in the these areas.

A snow advisory was in effect for the metropolitan area of Portland, Oregon where 1 to 3 inches of accumulation is anticipated. The Portland area also received accumulating snow on Wednesday, with 4 inches falling in Clackamas and 1 inch in downtown Portland. WeatherBug live sensors, however, showed temperatures had risen above freezing in much of the Portland area. The coolest temperatures were in the hills east of Portland, where a WeatherBug live sensor in Clackamas reported 34 degrees.

Elsewhere, temperatures were running much cooler than yesterday at this time in parts of Washington, Oregon, Idaho and western Montana. A WeatherBug live sensor in Richland, Washington reported 34 degrees at 6:30 AM PST, 28 degrees cooler than the same time Wednesday.

Cooler air was also spilling into North Dakota and western South Dakota
where temperatures are expected to hold steady or slowly fall through the
day. The next cold shot will contain arctic air and spread into the northern Rockies on Friday and gradually filter into the entire West and northern Plains over the weekend. A significant storm will develop just east of the central Rockies on Saturday and is expected to track northeast toward the Great lakes into early next week, becoming a major winter storm. Heavy snow and strong winds are possible to the northwest of the storm`s track.

All we need is DT to post on this thread and say he called this a week ago, and it will be just like WWBB.

Lets not go there people oh please lets not go there. Curb it before it starts i am serious dont open the door to all hell to break loose here on storm2k. Its 1 of 2 Boards that arent fighting boards. WWBB and weather.com boards are full fo flamers and we do not need that here.

Why did you type wasn't/aren't. Aren't doesn't make any sense in your sentence.

Also, you were talking about a foot of snow possible per GFS in Seattle. You didn't call anything, but you did interpret the model, and incorrectly IMO. I don't recall a forecast or analysis, but you said you did so we'll see.

What is so unusual about this event? I don't think it's unusual at all.. it happens occasionally. Now a snowfall in Tampa is unusual!

What makes this snowfall unusual is the fact that the Northwest hasen't seen much snow in the past 2 winters, Portland didn't see 1 flake last year so for them to have received 1 inch already in downtown plus the amount of snow that has fell in the higher elevations is unusual. Same goes for Washington St. plus the northeren Rockies where it has been unusualy dry the past few winters.

I was interpreting that WA/OR could have siginificant snows, I said the GFS gave SEA nearly a 1', didn't call that.

I mean am not, not are not.

It IS unusual for Western OR/WA to get significant snow in Nov.

WWBB may have more flamers, but it has much more experience and knowledge as well.

No offense but Storm2k bans people for doing next to nothing, like JetMaxx, the people that wwbb bans are people who DESERVE to be banned, but lets end it here and stop dissing each other. I like both boards, but I dislike it when one or the other gets dissed.

If you want people to come to this board, you have to be tolerable about other boards, or they'll take you as snobby.

I don't think it is going to get like that, IMO. Plus, I was joking about the DT comment.

I never brought this up, but why did JetMaxx get banned here? Was there a thread on this that I missed?

Well, you know what? I'm not so tolerant of places where flaming is common... also, another board banned 10 people a few months back, for doing nothing...

Jeremy - no need to defend S2K. The fact that people from WWBB post here must mean that they at least think S2K is an OK place. Otherwise, they would not be here.

Yeah, that's true...and the fact that I post here coming from the other board means that I like this place too...however, I am very upset about a totally unrelated matter, and that apparently came thru...

Just to comment, people do not get banned for no reason here. We have a different set of rules here. We are very open about what we do and don't tolerate. If a person violates our rules they are warned. If it continues they get the boot plain and simple. Most of the time a suspension is tried before an outright ban. We enjoy lively debates but just don't believe they need to resort to name calling and cussing.

To set the record on Perry (JetMaxx) he knows what he did and that's enough. He in fact resigned and asked to be removed from the board while the staff were considering what the appropriate response for his actions. I've counted Perry a friend for many years and still do :-)

Woodstock, ive seen about 3 or 4 post from you tonight talking about members here Bashing WWBB.. If you care to PM me and let me know where the bashing is, it will get taken care of. And please remember that there are two stories to every side.. and one last thing
No offense but Storm2k bans people for doing next to nothing, like JetMaxx,

Are you aware that Jetmaxx was banned from WWBB as well as some other boards? So now Storm2k is not a "ban happy" board out to ban people for no reason..

On a side not, it sure is great to see you here.. Infact I even think I invited you here at one time, becuase I enjoy some of your posts.. Enjoy your visits here my friend.. I respect your loyalty to WWBB, and your willingness to defend your home board, but like I said I have not seen any kind of bashing going on.. But I will be sure to take care of anything you wish to pm me about.. Thanks :-)

Lets have some thick skin here as well guys.. No need to tell people to not turn this into a bashing board etc... If something out of line happens it will be handled. Making statements like that before anything has eaven happend is only going to cuase bickering and bashing more then anything :-)

Let me just add in defense of both parties that for those not familure with wwbb ease up a little and vise versa..........Before go jumping the gun and no im not calling out anyone on this but letting you know that they do this alot with eachother (At WWBB) which in other words mean Kidding around etc such as we do here. Thank you Marshall for clearing that up about JetMaxx who btw he had to terminate his Internet account on account of his grandmother etc. Either way all try to lighten up a little!

Learn to relax and kid around a little people and dont take everything so serious!!!!
