I've done an official poll, re: same sex marriage ruling

I was curious as to how the general public in Massachusetts felt about this ruling so I conducted my own poll. I sent an e mail to my fellow co-workers in Massachusetts. I simply asked if they were in favor of gay marriages being legalized. Seven people polled. Seven answered no.

Margin of error = .01%

A tiny poll I know, but my point being the Judges are not voicing the opinion of the majority.

Check polls on the news sites. They agree. It's not 100% against, but they all showed that at least 60%, if not more, disagreed.

Like I said before, it's not gonna happen in my lifetime. I'm sure people used to think that about blacks and whites going to the same school or women being able to vote. But eventually, things changed.

Well, it is a sample j, regardless of how small it was.

I personally don't think it is right either - I take the meaning of marriage literally from the bible. However, I don't have any qualms about same-sex "unions".

I can "poll" 7 of my coworkers- and I'd come up with 7 yes.

A small sample if often worse than no sample at all. That's just science. A small sample doesn't reflect the majority.

Poll 700 people from different states and backgrounds and we can talk about majorities.

hmmmmmm. Well, of consideration here OG is that I know longer work with these people, and the reason I asked THEM, was because they live in Massachusetts. Did not want to argue this point by polling people from around the country.

I beg to differ with your sample theory. I asked 7 people out of a group of 120. Three woman and four men (one black). Their ages ranged from 25 to 50. I polled 17% of the population of this company. If I had conducted a poll in my city of 20,000, I would have called 3400 people to match that polling %.

Dennis, he misunderstood, okay? He apologized. Please understand that "the door swinging both ways" has a bisexual connotation. It didn't really make sense and I misunderstood it myself. Linda, however, did get it and tried to diffuse the situation. Johnathan came back and apologized.

Since Johnathan has now been banned for two weeks and lost his moderator privileges, I guess his apology wasn't enough?

I don't understand why one moderator can get a little emotional about a subject that is very personal to him, apologize about doing so, and then he gets banned. And yet another one, whoever it was, can delete three posts in a row that are friendly, regular, run-of-the-mill posts, without any reason or explanation and without punishment. It seems to me both were personal. I don't quite get the rationale. But that’s just my take on the situation and my opinion.

You guys know I live right on the coast and I rely heavily on Storm2K's members for their insight and opinions during hurricane season. In addition, we share a lot about news, life, and faith. You guys know I'm gay and you know Johnathan's gay. A few of you dislike that fact and you've shared your opinions in a civil manner, while a handful of you have been very supportive and several of you ride the fence on different sub-issues dealing with the topic. (Sub-issues...if wasn't a word, it is now ) Heck, a couple of you have even come out yourselves, either privately or in the forum. Through it all, almost all of you, whether you agreed with our lifestyles or not, have shown your concern and loyalty as online friends to each other and us during the storms, whether tropical, political, medical, legal, financial, or familial.

I realize things can, on a rare occasion, get overheated here. Often, it’s based on online discussions alone, but sometimes personal, offline conflicts create more tension for members and it is disseminated in their attitudes online. Sometimes, points are misconstrued or the tone of a post is misunderstood or not voiced clearly by the poster. Sometimes feelings get hurt because of that. We’re a big, diverse family here and we’re not going to agree on everything. That should be an accepted fact. And sometimes when those disagreements culminate, we’re going to have situations arise where members (even moderators and administrators) need to step away for a while, then come back to communicate, discuss, and resolve problems and misunderstandings. However, in this situation, I don’t understand the resolution. An apology was offered, but not accepted.

As a member of the forum, I am evoking Robert’s Rules of Order and requesting a point of clarification in regards to the punishment beset upon Johnathan. Furthermore, I make a motion to bring a vote to the table to reinstate Johnathan’s moderator and public relations position upon his return to Storm2K. And as a family member of Storm2K, I believe we can work this out if we communicate as a group.

Sometimes things typed on a computer don't come out quite how they would if you were accually talking to someone verbally. and we forget that.
I know, because I look at something I'm going to post once in a while and say ... "is this coming out how I want it to come out " if not I try to rephrase or just not type it.

Absolutely right, hunter (and Shawn). I very rarely get really upset when I correspond with people online. Sometimes our posts may seem rude and/or come across that we are upset.

Staff members are held to an even higher standard of conduct than regular board members. Based on this an several other incidents, the Admin team decided to remove Johnathan's Moderator status and invoke a 2 week cooling off period. Johnathan is and hopefully will continue to be a very valuable member of the board. I won't go into any more detail than.

For staff members, it is even more important that we sometimes walk away from debates that may be a little close to home. We have said from the very beginning that the rules apply to all members. What we didn't say is that the rules are even stricter on the Staff.
