The long awaited eastern cold is still in delay. While Thanskgiving wont be as warm as Weather53's forecast from a few weeks ago, it certaintly wont be as cold as what JB has been barking for a few weeks either. For DC, it looks like 55 degree Thankgiving. Still seeing no signs of any cold air heading east before Dec 10. This reminds me of winter 01/02 in ONLY one regard. the COld air always seemed 10 days away.
For the Plains though--its a different story. Minnesota could have a historical Nov Blizzard.

A few weeks ago, I fully believed it would be cold starting around November 20. Then I was thinking right after Thanksgiving. Then early this week, I changed that to the first week of December. Is there a trend here? I think I should stop speculating on when the eastern trough is coming back until it actually arrives.
It is nice to see someone getting cold air. In late November 2001, I am pretty sure that the central plains and rockies were warm. So this is definitely not the same.

its not the same at all as 2001/02 execpt i remember cold always being 10 days away.
By no means will this winter reflect 2001/2002. It was warm and dry for the entire country that fall/early winter.
I do expect the mean trough to be in the East but i give up on trying to give a date.
If i had to guess a date i would say Dec 5-15....

I'm fine with relatively mild weather through December...but not that we're starting to look relatively mild for the beginning of December...I'm really starting to get ancy. I know there's very little chance of this winter being as bad as 01-02...but with that winter in recent memory, it's very hard to forget. It tough to look at the ensembles everyday and see not real evidence of a cool down 10-14 days out. I just hope we get a decent snow (2-3") in my area before Christmas rolls around.
