Got to give a shout out to long time storm2k poster Gatorcane too. He noticed the NE path of the GFS last night and made note of it. Of course myself, Steve, NDG and Caneman are all pretty long in the tooth posters here too. If I've left someone else out my apologies
GCANE for the obscure play by play stuff. Got to be my favorite poster.
I look for him ever Storm to let me know what’s happening with CAPE and tornados,

pretty much all but guaranteed. In my opinion the wind damage we will see will be devastating, mostly due to how far inland this is expected to maintain hurricane status. That's the key.

I think Helene's main story will be its inland effects due to how fast it is traveling, especially potential impacts in major cities like Tally and Atlanta. So yes, given its strength especially, I'd say there unfortunately is a likely chance of this getting retired.

Unless explicitly stated, all info in my posts is based on my own opinions and observations. Tropical storms and hurricanes can be extremely dangerous. Do not think you can beat Mother Nature. Refer to an accredited weather research agency or meteorologist if you need to make serious decisions regarding an approaching storm.

that's some warm water right there and almost perfect conditions aloft to bring her that low..impressive but not surprising.

NHC shifted track to the crack..
Might save Tally?

That's what I'm thinking. Even if only another 15-30 miles further east, would mean Crawfordville & Tally could be 40-50 miles west. That could be the difference between "bad" and "severe"

946.2 mb extrap at 21:53z to 943.6 mb extrap at 22:48z is roughly 2.8 mb/hr. A respectable pace, but not crazy bombing. Next pass should be around 941 mb.

I am only a meteorology enthusiast who knows a decent amount about tropical cyclones. Look to the professional mets, the NHC, or your local weather office for the best information.

It would be the difference between a hit similar to Kate 1985, and an unprecedented impact that makes the city forever unrecognizable.
