Watching a bunch of chasers out in the open near Perry. Can't help but wonder how many will get hurt with this, Perry is not that far inland.

And it looks like only one of them is wearing a helmet.

OMG the coast from Tampa all the wat north and northwest seeing record storm surges. This is definitely catastrophic.

Wide ranging effects - in Orlando getting tropical storm force winds for the last 5 hours- gusts into the 60s the last two. But oddly not a drop of rain in that time.

It appears the crew doesn't want to test the plane's safety by venturing into the NW Eyewall

I say this every time but I simply could not do what they do.

Anyone have thoughts on Chattanooga impacts? There's an Ironman event there this weekend and the swim has already been canceled. Will they see tropical storm winds as well and are outages in that area a concern. Flooding looks almost definite.

When I read “holiday inn”, the first thing that came up in my mind was their slogan from the commercials. “I’m not actually an expert storm chaser, but I stayed at a holiday inn express last night!” Hahaha

938 official, so likely to be 935-940 at landfall. Question is do the winds still have more catching up to do in the next 30 minutes?

Storms tend to follow the convection, the high cold cloud tops on satellite.

Following the clouds takes Helene to Apalachee Bay, right where the models have been saying. This looks a lot better for Tampa Bay.

Unfortunately this area is extremely prone to storm surge(shallow bay), but relatively sparsely populated.

If I had to guess a landfall point, it would be St. Marks lighthouse ...

Well I finally guessed correctly... doubtful that will happen again.

Rainfall near Asheville NC is going to be catastrophic, they've already had 8in over the past 24hrs and are forecasted to get 12in+ over the next day. All that water running down the mountains is going to exacerbate flash flooding that's already taking place there.

Definitely for all of WNC incl the high country.
