I know it's sickening how they spread misinformation, not very responsible. But it's all about the views.
I'm sorry but this is not misinformation. There is a category 5 hurricane -a strong one at that - headed for Florida's West Coast. The media is reporting facts as they exist.

Wilma was the lowest recorded in the Atlantic at 882. They can get pretty damn low
Thanks for your reply....

Why do we think it’s going to be a meld?

This storm has defied all predictions. I'm not sure why you would act like you know it is going to be a Cat 3 at landfall. That's more reckless than overpredicting. Originally, it was predicted to just be a frontal low and we see how that prediction worked out.

Because the latest HAFS-A/B showed a quick and successful meld starting early this evening and finishing by tomorrow morning, with a secondary peak occurring afterwards.

I am only a meteorology enthusiast who knows a decent amount about tropical cyclones. Look to the professional mets, the NHC, or your local weather office for the best information.

Am still learning the dynamics but the "Fists of God" seen/heard first-hand must be some kind of horizontal tornado.
The crazy thing is the Fist is punching down/sideways hard not sucking air up like a regular tornado.
Watched more than a few solid brick buildings disintegrate under the Fists of God.
Finally figured out why after a major hurricane some buildings would be just fine and others were selectively destroyed.
It was the Fists.

Although I have been a hurricane forecaster since 1980 that only means I've been wrong lots of times.

I have several aunts who live in Tampa outside of the evacuation zones. I’ve spoken to all three and none of them are boarding up(no impact windows). They say it will miss them to the south or weaken substantially before hitting inland Hillsborough county(Temple Terrace). I hope they are right.. but I am very concerned for them.

It's just how they word it. It would have been if they would have said, "strong cat 5 hurricane, but expected to weaken some, heading for Florida".. That way they are calling it like it is.

Development somehow reminds me of Goni 2020 - small storms developing a pinhole eye that undergoes an eyewall melding...

HWRF also shows this, and it’s usually very good with predicting internal structure.

Because the storm's biggest danger will be its storm surge, which will be worse due to its current intensity.

Can we please take this bickering about the media reports to another thread/forum?
