Well since they missed the center, say it breaks even at 898.

Reasonable compromise

Last time there was a sub-900 mb hurricane in the Atlantic, I was a toddler.

Could this have perhaps undergone an eyewall meld like you see sometimes in really powerful hurricanes? That could explain the lack of an EWRC - maybe it just powered through it without losing a beat.

Also, this is what the shoreline of the town of Progreso (northwest of Merida on the Yucatan Peninsula) looks like. Certainly doesn't look like an area that's prepared for a brush with a category 5 hurricane or associated surge, not to mention they're not used to hurricanes in this particular location anyway as they would basically have to come from the west, which is rather unusual.

I was here for the historic Wilma flight. I'm horrified to be here today.

One saving grace - he’s a buzz saw, but at least he’s a relatively tiny one ATM.

Living in such primitive conditions will wear on the most battle weary soul, especially hurricane hardened pros (like me?) who have been through lots of storms and as I "age," I am finding it harder to endure those conditions.

Amen to that sister. Laura did me in, I think; if not her, Delta a few weeks later. And I don't care who you are, once you've lived it--sifting through your soaked personal items, picking up your photo albums from your neighbors' yards, watching your bedroom ceiling come crashing down on the sentimental parts of your life, among others--hurricane PTSD is real and extremely painful.

I am pretty sure the HH will not be doing any 1000ft fly throughs on this one.

Pretty much the same size as Wilma's 3.7 km record small eye.

Edit: 4 nm, not km, but still super impressive.
