Florida does not use contraflow, but they are using the shoulders of the outbound interstates as additional lanes on I-4 and I-75

What do I win? :D Seriously though, such an unbelievable number and it will most likely go lower.

I’m going with the very lowest 900s with evidence of an outer eyewall.

Half of the storm is dark pink on the IR brightness temp satellite (-90c) so that definitely cannot be good... does that mean its still going under rapid intensification?

Phenomenal phenomenon in the making. Funny thing is, it's giving me a sick feeling, not giddy at all.

I'm fair to call myself safe being in Hollywood Florida, but my heart aches for those in his path..

It was to his E and SE earlier, it seems to be rotating around and will be absorbed eventually.

Is it something they can implement on the fly??? Because I believe more people will evacuate this storm, than has ever in Florida's history. I hate to think of so many stuck on the interstates

OMG! Where on earth (or the Internet) did you find this?! I've driven myself batty trying to locate these old-school GOES floater IR products (AVN, RBTOP, etc) ever since the links disappeared from the NOAA site (although, the TT IR products have grown on me) without success. I believe this is the page I used to find them on but now it seems to only have them for the Himawari-8 satellite which only covers the WPAC.

If you can point me to a link where these still can be found... :notworthy:

Do we even see this dropping below Cat 5 at this point? The eye won't pass over the Yucatan, and are conditions near FL that bad for development/stability?

Shear is going to significantly increase in the last 12-24 hours before Florida. Combine that with an interaction with a trough, and it should weaken rapidly before landfall.

But how rapid is rapid when this thing could be top 5 on record by the time it gets to that point is what I'm worried about, especially with the southern dip :\

Eye is making some violent oscillating loops; we saw that during Wilma as well, right before an EWRC.

My posts are my own personal opinion, defer to the National Hurricane Center (NHC) and other NOAA products for decision making during hurricane season.

Anyone know what the pressure of Camille was in 1969 (I think that was the year)

I believe their thinking is that by using the shoulders to give 1-2 more lanes of traffic, they accomplish the same traffic volume as contraflow would but do so with needing fewer resources tied up closing ramps and allows for resources to still get inbound toward the affected areas as needed.
