Is there a site that I can access that shows the expected size of the storm as it approaches landfall? Went through Ike in 2008 and a lot of people let down their guard because it had "weakened" to a Cat 2 before landfall. What made Ike so devastating was the size of the storm and the vast area that was affected by surge and wind. I think most people on a forum like this understand to not just focus on the category of the storm, however in my experience, most people I know that are not weather enthusiast do just that.

Recon's last pass is 909.9 mbar. Weakening rapidly now.

Hurricane models will have the depiction if you can find a site to show them that isn’t swamped.

It was Denis Phillips of our local ABC affiliate here in Tampa. I don’t have a link as I was watching it on TV on his Denis Phillips live segment live program.

That is surprising. I know Denis and had gone to weather conferences with him in the Bahamas but am very surprised if he would say that. He was posting on FB about this being a strong Cat 5 and all necessary precautions need to be taken.

I think weakening should be given a huge asterisk given that it's going through a massive EWRC

Amen to that sister. Laura did me in, I think; if not her, Delta a few weeks later. And I don't care who you are, once you've lived it--sifting through your soaked personal items, picking up your photo albums from your neighbors' yards, watching your bedroom ceiling come crashing down on the sentimental parts of your life, among others--hurricane PTSD is real and extremely painful.

This is absolutely true!

I never would have believed I was someone who would "suffer" from PTSD, but I guarantee you, I do, ever since Ian.

I went through Charley and wasn't fazed, but Ian did me in!

We are MOVING just as soon as we can sell this property (already bought a place in Arizona - LAND LOCKED STATE!!! No hurricanes). Unfortunately, hurricanes keep popping up and making it impossible for us to get O-U-T.

My wife is the same exact way. We didn't lose everything in Ian but we lost enough for it to give her PTSD. We were also in the eye wall for 8 hours since it skirted right by us as it came through PC and by NP. We've been planning on moving to the N. GA mountains next spring. Hopefully we will be able to sell in the next 6 months. That is if anyone still wants to live in FL.

I’m very curious to see how the EWRC plays out. Even with a rapidly rising pressure, Milton still looks phenomenal on IR, and the HAFS models keep showing recovery sometime tomorrow. However, it’s quite close to the Yucatan, so perhaps there’s a chance of some slight disruption or dry air ingestion while it’s in such a vulnerable state.

I am only a meteorology enthusiast who knows a decent amount about tropical cyclones. Look to the professional mets, the NHC, or your local weather office for the best information.

Right. A storm from a couple weeks ago. It takes months and months.

This is true. After Ike, FEMA had to quickly build a staging landfill on Galveston. The pickup process took many months.

I can’t imagine the scale of something like Pinellas down past Siesta Key. You and I know, no way that could be done in a couple of weeks.

I know it’s frustrating but folks need to understand this is a gargantuan effort, and not exactly easy to coordinate when you are doing double-duty preparing for an imminent storm worse than the one you’re still cleaning up from.

I wish people would show some grace and appreciate the things we do have versus what we don’t.

Yeah, what's with all these "weakening rapidly" posts all of a sudden?

I'm well versed in hurricanes been doing them since 1976 and don't need an education.. Even 100 mph winds coupled with 10 or 12 foot of storm surge would be far too much for an area with near zero recovery. Further, FEMA isn't doing its best, they've been a complete failure. Desantis had to take over and cut locks at city and county dumps to do 24/7 pickups. I live here, i know what's going and I have projectiles piled up all around me.

I side with caneman.

My son sent me a video he took yesterday while on a bike ride of furniture etc. piled up on the street outside of every home on the barrier island by Indian Rocks Beach/Madeira Beach. All of these items will become airborne missiles in even the winds you conceded. FEMA has been counter-productive at best. This is not a political statement. It is fact.

First claw truck got to debris by my house after Katrina in November. They had money in our accounts quick and got me a trailer by December. But instead of knee jerking, consider the scope.

When Katrina chased me out of Waveland, FEMA provided assistance, paid for my neighbors' hotel bills, and distributed MREs (not bad!) in the Louisiana town I evacuated to. I still haven't heard back from American Red Cross.

909.9 mbar and "weakening rapidly" are two things I never thought would be said in the same sentence.

Right, and there's a reason you thought that they would never be in the same sentence. And you'd be correct.

Winds still pack a punch though. 160 kt FL/170 kt SFMR in the SW eyewall this pass.

At this rate I’m wondering if it’s just gonna quickly meld and go right back to insanity within 12 hours.

I think people should be careful when saying weakening rapidly some people might see it and say maybe I should not worry or not evacuate. Let's be careful!

FEMA has a colossal task already from multiple major storms including as recently as a couple weeks ago! If anything I want to thank them and local officials for doing all they can, the scope is unimaginable right now.
