Milton is moving towards the NE but he is still hanging on the right side of the line… I’m concerned about that bend to the east as it makes landfall. What if that happens a little sooner? Then a lot of the tropical storm warning areas will take the hurricane head on. Maybe the NHC feels good about the track and that’s why they didn’t put up hurricane watches.

Probably 60-70 and gusting in the upper 80s

The NOAA plane hinted at a double maxima, could by why it has leveled off. Look for the wind field to expand again.

Last SAB fix at 18z was a 6.5 when it was at least a T7.0. They keep going with a cool eye despite visible and BD showing a warm eye.

Matches up with a moat-like feature in the NW quad.

I am only a meteorology enthusiast who knows a decent amount about tropical cyclones. Look to the professional mets, the NHC, or your local weather office for the best information.

If I had a nickel for every time this month SAB went with T6.5 for the most obvious T7.0+ you’ve ever seen, I’d have two nickels, which isn’t a lot but it’s weird that it happened twice.

Unless explicitly stated, all info in my posts is based on my own opinions and observations. Tropical storms and hurricanes can be extremely dangerous. Do not think you can beat Mother Nature. Refer to an accredited weather research agency or meteorologist if you need to make serious decisions regarding an approaching storm.

And there's the reason behind the intensity slightly dropping. Is there any chance that there's even another EWRC before landfall? We've already had two now already..

I suspect the peak of Milton today was about an hour before recon arrived. Probably hit 900 mb at one point, but doubt it beat yesterday's max intensity.

If I had no idea what was going on, and looked at that without the land, I'd swear it was in the West Pacific

I know a couple people were downplaying the effect of the Loop Current on such a vigorous storm as its already way high in intensity. Would that change though with an EWRC and getting it back up in intensity quicker or would it still have a neglible effect given how strong the storm already is. Obviously not much is known so its gonna be speculative either way. Mainly curious to see opinions on that.
