My estimate is that Milton is making landfall over Longboat Key based on the latest recon pass.

Winds here in Clearwater are gusting close to or over 100mph. I think the north west eyeewall isn't far away. Lights are flickering but still on for now..

Re: ATL: MILTON - Hurricane - Discussion
Are extreme wind warnings in hurricanes a new thing? I always figured hurricane warnings were enough when it came to hurricanes themselves, and extreme wind warnings were for non-tropical systems. I think Helene had them too, but don't remember any before that.

"But it never rained rain. It never snowed snow. And it never blew just wind. It rained things like soup and juice. It snowed mashed potatoes and green peas. And sometimes the wind blew in storms of hamburgers." -- Judi Barrett, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs

Punta Gorda airport; 51 mph sustained, 73 mph gusts out of the south. You can bet their is tremendous surge in Charlotte Harbor now. Also Sarasota airport: 53 mph sustained, 93 mph gusts. Winds still east.

Landfall at Siesta Key per the NHC.

Do not take anything I say seriously as a form of meteorological prediction. I am not a meteorologist; I don't think being in law school translates to any special knowledge. I am just a somewhat bullish amateur watcher.

Apparently US1 in vero beach has majority of roads impassable and buildings destroyed. From that crazy tornado earlier.

Station in Montverde in the western shores of Lake Apopka in western Orange County/Lake County is reporting wind gusts of 74 mph. It Makes sense because the winds are coming off the huge Lake out of the east.

Apollo Beach, FL area. Blowing (guess) 50mph gusts ~75-ish. Waiting for the bad winds over the next hour.

Got my eyes on moving right into Hurricane Alley: Florida.

So, does a Longboat Key landfall spare Tampa? That is awfully close!

From storm surge yes. Keeps the winds from shifting west.

Re: ATL: MILTON - Hurricane - Discussion: Makes landfall near Siesta Key in Sarasota county / 120 mph
Milton will join the likes of Katrina and Rita as being phenomenal Category 5s in the Gulf that made landfall in the CONUS at Category 3s. Oh yeah, btw, this is now the 10TH MAJOR GULF CONUS LANDFALL since 2017.

Unless explicitly stated, all info in my posts is based on my own opinions and observations. Tropical storms and hurricanes can be extremely dangerous. Do not think you can beat Mother Nature. Refer to an accredited weather research agency or meteorologist if you need to make serious decisions regarding an approaching storm.

Official landfall at Siesta Key about 10 minutes ago. Surge is a real concern but I believe the tornado outbreak has so that stolen the show.

Saw that too. Watching to see how close the southern eyewall gets to our area

Some but they are prolonged in the Northern eyewall ala Baton Rouge in circa Gustav and Ida. They’ve still got a few more hours of training so maybe another 4+” of rain
