Those CPC maps only represent your chances of being above or below normal, not the actual temperatures. Having a high chance of being above normal temperatures doesn’t necessarily mean a blow torch, especially this time of year.

It was absolutely disgusting at Six Flags yesterday. Hard to get into the Holiday in the Park Christmas Spirit when it 65 dewpoint and mid 70's.

We have to wait for the MJO to get into phase 7. Supposed to happen late this month or early January.

It's always 2 weeks away.

I mean the amount of snow we get 2 weeks away consistently is amazing. The best part is we never have to deal with it.

The issue for me isn't 2 weeks or anything like that. I never have expectations that December now delivers much in the way of wintry precip, it just doesn't. I've come to terms Decembers are just extended Fall.

What's unnerving is cold isn't verifying up north. We're not building vast supplies of cold air that sticks around long enough to deliver when the pattern is better. When we have to wait for the cold to build, that's what makes it 2 weeks out.

We don't need much cold, but enough cold air to get winter weather. Epo will be positive for a while due to many factors I suppose. I'm hoping it won't last long

We don't need much as long as it's plenty cold up north. That's the issue. You still have to have a cold source somewhere, it can't be looking like early November in Canada.

If i remember correctly, leading up to january and february of the winter of 2021, december was actually pretty warm overall, didnt have any winter weather events that month, look what happened in january, we had that winter storm in central texas in january, and then we had that arctic outbreak/ massive winter storm in february, i agree with NTXW that it seems decembers now are uneventful , however we got a long ways to go and the pattern is going to flip, the one good thing is their is a pretty healthy snowpack in canada, thats one thing you want to see

-EPO/wpo is one of the more important indicators for cold to return to the US. A +PNA won't help unless you're in the eastern us.

The winter of 2020/21 while definitely warm overall, we did have some periods of very active winter weather across the state each month (late Dec/mid Jan) with obviously the benchmark Feb 2021 event closing it out. But as most know on here, Jan and Feb are typically "our months" climatologically for winter weather if we're to get something.

La Nina winters while mostly dry and warmer than average can sometimes deliver some memorable winter events. All it takes is one and so I think January still looks to me like the month to really watch. So, while I think most of us will be wearing shorts on Christmas this year, parts of January may feel much different if we can get the MJO moving into the favorable phases.

I will say the 21-22 winter... December was a torch and I didn't see a flake here til January(and east of us had some fun then) and then we still had 13 inches of snow after February 1st

I dunno... That's actually more than Tulsa had in 20-21 shockingly

We got a long way to go for sure but like I'm gonna be so disappointed if we can't do it this year like I said

Oh and a heat index of 85 yikes

2021-2022 was kind of El Nino-ish too in terms of warm-cold-cold. December was spent in the bad MJO phases and went to 7 in January. However December was warm in large part of because of the very strong SE ridge and bad Pacific.
