These dropped around 6:30pm near Slocum, Texas in Southeast Anderson County. These photos were taken about 30 minutes after the fact and after a very heavy rain. They were golf ball or ping-pong ball sized. I saw some stones drop on the porch that weren't uniformly formed into a sphere and were probably close to 3" wide. Interestingly enough all the stones that fell on the porch melted before I could get out. These photos were a few of many that remained on the ground. Biggest hailstorm I've ever experienced in my 41 years. This Christmas ain't Christmas'ing correctly.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I think there’s a correlation between thunderstorms in the south and winter weather. I forgot where I heard this though.

Yes, there's an old saying that goes, “If there's thunder in the winter, snow will fall within ten days.” While it's not always scientifically accurate, this bit of folklore suggests a connection between thunderstorms and impending winter weather.

In reality, weather patterns can be complex, and while a thunderstorm may be followed by cold weather, it's not a guarantee. Nature has its own way of surprising us!

Are you bracing for winter weather soon?

It’s played out frequently in the past 25 years. It’s quite uncanny.

I'm hopeful we can cash in while the cold pattern is here in january. If the pna is ultimately positive, we will be on the outside looking in most likely. Most niñas are front loaded, meaning if we don't cash in by mid january, that probably will be it. I know we have February, but typically a se ridge and trough is on west coast. Hopeful it don't happen, but something to watch for sure. That is why we only average what we average on snow every winter :grr:

I've heard that about snow 10 days after a storm before too and I can remember a couple big incidents where it didn't verify especially the 2015 tornado in DFW

Anyway I just hope we can get our snow sooner rather than later....I mean we'll probably have another chance in February or even March especially up here but I'd rather not wait after the last two winters have been so pathetic

2012: Tornado warnings in the morning turned into 6” of snow in Denton and Collin counties that evening. They shut down DNT and my crying 3 month old made me want to get out of the car and walk off into the storm.

There was Christmas 2009 here too which went from storms to blizzard conditions in like 2 hours apparently... I'm still waiting for another storm like that  it's crazy how Tulsa had two blizzards in back to back winters with February 2011 and nothing really close since. 2021 and the last somewhat big storm in 2022 didn't have much wind and the snow has been too light to matter since

Maybe some year

Well the TikTok meteorologists were touting a big southern snow/ice event for first week in January so maybe? I think it was way oversensationaized. Showed DFW getting a few inches of snow, and Arkansas with over a foot.
