If this is indeed a bust, this is huge one for sure. What a letdown.

I mean I'm more being snarky because of how everyone claimed the Euro had it earlier but it wouldn't surprise me either... Like I said we did this exact same thing last year up here in January and it ended up barely snowing at all. Not saying it will but the same thing could easily happen again

As I said earlier this afternoon, the NW heavy totals didn't make sense for a Gulf low. It's still a big event. DfW still in line for 3 to 6. Heavier amounts further east. East Texas along and north of I20 still looks good for majority snow.

Wow. What a flop in the models and what a miss for me. Models were in agreement for the last several days that I would get 4+” on pure snow, now showing I may not get a single snowflake. Talk about a punch to the gut.

This reminds me of last January when our 10 inches turned into an inch 3 days out :spam:

Even Stevie Wonder could see that was coming.

But oh well. After that very cruel tease, I'm ready for Summer!

I see that NWS FTW and SHV hoisted up watches. For SHV, along I20 they are going 1 to 2" snow and .25 to .5" ice and along I30 they are going 4 to 8" snow and light ice. I imagine that they are as frustrated as the rest of us with the models but that forecast seems reasonable. Gonna be a high impact winter storm for N and NE TX though maybe not the incredible heavy snow that we hoped for. A 1 inch QPF winter storm is big just sucks that it's gonna have mixed precip types.

New FWNWS:

LONG TERM... /NEW/
/Wednesday Night through Early Next Week/

An active period will take place Wednesday night through Friday
as the potential for winter precipitation continues to increase
across North Texas into portions of Central Texas. As expected,
there are still many uncertainties about precipitation types,
rain/wintry mix transition zones, and snow/ice accumulations.
We`re continuing to piece together what we know, what the models
are telling us, and what Mother Nature will actually deliver.

One good news is that in the synoptic scale, models are overall
coming into a more consistent solution with the upper low staying
over Baja California a little longer which may bring a slightly
warmer airmass into the southern Plains just in time as the
precipitation arrives. One of the reasons forecasting winter
weather in our area is so challenging is the variability in the
temperature profiles shown in the guidance. Not only can this
change the snow and/or ice accumulations but also the transition
zones. The most likely scenario at this time continues to be the
potential for mixed precipitation for most of North Texas and
portions of Central Texas. This doesn`t mean that everyone will
see winter precipitation, some locations may see more cold rain
than any other type.

So, what`s new with this update? A Winter Storm Watch has been
issued for the entire North Texas region from early Thursday through
Friday. Given the trends with the track and the progression of the
system, confidence continues to increase that a band of
moderate/heavy snow could impact portions of North Texas. At this
time, the highest snowfall accumulations appear to be north of I-20
towards the Red River where 3-6" of snow are possible. While the
totals for portions of Central Texas are lower, we continue to
monitor the potential for some ice accumulations as freezing
rain/sleet could mix in with the rain. As expected, continue to pay
attention to the forecast as these amounts and precipitation
types will continue to be adjusted.

What we would like to be the main takeaway is that this system is
expected to bring at least a medium likelihood of moderate
impacts for portions of North Texas especially travel impacts.
Continue to take the necessary precautions, prepare your home for
the cold weather, and consider alter any travel plans later in the
week.

The precipitation is expected to end Friday afternoon/evening,
but impacts will continue to linger into Friday night and Saturday
morning as temperatures remain or drop to below freezing during
the night. Dry weather will continue over the weekend with
temperatures warming into the 40s/50s Saturday afternoon for most
locations. Beyond that, high pressure will settle early next week
with dry but cooler weather with highs in the 40s and lows in the
30s.

Well that arrow in Denton County on the Travel Impacts Expected tab for 3"-6" is pointed right at me.

So either it's the kiss of death or something special is going to happen.

https://www.weather.gov/fwd/

They seem confident that snowfall will still occur but definitely leave an out for a nothing burger.

It's all about all someone in thier position can do.

OO NAM gave my area 8-10 inches. This morning I get half an inch lol. I want to not believe it but based on past rains my area hasn’t gotten even a quarter of what the metroplex has.

One thing I’ll add is the NAM has temps 6-7 degrees warmer than the HRRR at 1/9 06z.

So for context are you saying that you suspect the hrrr is more accurate in this case?

3-6”? I’ll take it. This is pretty much the same area they’ve said all along. I never thought we’d get 10-14”.

In the past that I’ve followed I feel like it has done better with Temps close range but I’ll let the professionals chime in on that. At any rate we should know our fates by tomorrow.

A WINTER STORM WATCH is now in effect for parts of North Texas generally along and north of I-20 where snowfall accumulations of 3 to 6 inches will be possible on Thursday.
Farther south, lighter amounts of snow, sleet, and some ice will be possible. Consider altering or delaying late week travel plans and keep up with the forecast over the coming days.
