Problems with the neighbors?

#1 Postby coriolis » Sun Nov 23, 2003 1:15 pm

Does anyone have problems with their neighbors? I'm sure that there's some good stories to be told.

I'll start:

Our neighbors have to be the most "perfect" people and they can't be bothered with us. Granted, our household can be loud and cursing can be heard from open windows. We have three pit bulls and occasionally shady looking people come to visit. (It's not what you think) But we are real and genuine. They seem fake. Their yard is perfectly tidy. If the grass is 1 1/2 inches tall, he's out mowing. We have bare spots and holes and dog poop in our yard. Their lights are off every night at 10:30. Ours can be on at anytime of the night. Their kids are perfect. Never in trouble. Our kids.... well, let's just say that we know all the township cops! I don't care, we're doing the best we can. Things happen. But these people wish they wouldn't even have to wave to us when our cars pass. They think they are so better than us. I hate that.
When it snows I'm going to make a snow sculpture of a hand flipping them off. That would be more fuel to the fire, but at this point I don't care. Just wait till I get my stereo repaired. I'll bet they never heard the Cramps cranked up before.....

Ok, Next.....

Believe me Ed, they are probably much more troubled than what you can "see" on the outside. I can't stand people with airs about them. They are not worth the aggravation.

Actually, my neighbors are great. We do live in a diverse development that is about 9 years old. I've told you about our neighbors Paul and Angel. I live on a court and we have two black families and four white that live on it. Everyone helps each other out. We're very fortunate. One of the men is a councilman for the borough. Needless to say, when it snows, our court is CLEAN! The at the other house Marty and I lived in three years ago our neighbors were nice also.

My neighbors are pretty decent. The houses here are not too close together though.

My former neighbors( I live in an apartment with paper thin walls) used to argue late into the night often keeping me awake. When they werent arguing they were ..umm...u know. And thanks to the thin walls i could hear EVERY detail. Two young ladies live there now; I rarely hear or see them but they seem friendly enough. If I were only 15 years younger...oh well :(

At our former apartment, we had "red hot mamas" having catfights in the parking lot at 3 am, had a police standoff with a suicidal neo-Nazi wannabe barricaded in his efficency apt. (we had to evacuate for 2 hours), heavy traffic 24/7 and ROACHES.

Here, our next door neighbor is a high school principal, our landlord is also a teacher, and the area is NICE for a change...very quiet and friendly.

My neighbours are wonderful.. we were welcomed with home baked pie and big hugs.

The people around us are much older than us, basically retired couples with no kids, so I guess we are the noisy ones (everyone in town knows when my son is in trouble, as im normally yelling at him when he is outside!)

Ed I can relate. We have a lived in, sometimes messy house too. Walk into my house and you'll see shoes on the floor, cobwebs in all the corners usually (unless I'm entertaining) and junk lying about. My kitchen counters are often cluttered, no overly but my island is a dumping spot for everything. You see I married a slob.....Jim was proud to be a slob! I was not a neat freak but I wanted a clean house. Somehow we met in the middle. Then I ended up with 2 anal, immuculate families/homes on either side of me. Ugh!!! Both houses are run on a strict schedule, the husbands at both never rest - weekend chores all the time. One wife works her tail off too and the other is a full time mom, like me, but has a cleaning lady. This wife/mom I swear has nothing to do - her husband does it all, what's left from the cleaning lady. So picture all of that and what you'll see over here are weeds, no mulch in places (gasp!), and windows in need of paint (still have a few to go until winter sets in). So man oh man, can I relate! The one family I just smile and tolerate but the other family I enjoy. They admit they're anal about their house (pictures are promptly developed, then put into albums; mine are in shoe boxes, LOL) and joke around about it. I say you have to be this way from the very beginning. I would need to light a fire under my hubby's butt to get him in gear. And he says let's enjoy life! Let's go bike riding with the kids, go hiking, go for a drive. So long story short, I've been swayed over to Jim's side - take life at a much slower pace, who cares about the cobwebs? LOL

OMG!!!! I think I just about fell off the chair laughing when I read this!! I know how you feel, our neighbors to the left are ridiculous! There are 100 people in their house at all times, but they are "holier than thou" compared to us, or so they think!!! You should listen to them whine when the leaves from our trees fall into their yard!! LMAO I say all this in jest....my best friend is the oldest daughter of that family, but she doesn't live there anymore!

Lmao, Ed - your neighbors sound like the Simpson's neighbors,
the Flanders Family.... "Howdy-HO, neighbor!"

Thank the Lord, my brother and his wife live on one side of me,
and, the house on the other side is vacant, as, the folks that own
it live up North, and, haven't retired here, yet. The neighbors
across the road are the Nazarene preacher's family, and, he only
revs up his "Hog" to ride on warm days, and, the fella behind me
raises exotic fowl for.....well, we don't wanna know "why"...;)

OH GOD YEAH...the one across the street, she's called the SPCA on our dog, she doesn't like us parking on her side of the street...I do have a funny story, involving a newspaper, a lawnmower and her front lawn...

The "downside" is that, probably because of former tenants, we have to keep our apartment spotless at all times (hard to do, with the two "slobs" I live with...books and clothes/shoes everywhere, papers and unopened mail strewn about, and DISHES all over the place).

Dealing with all that is a full-time job...as I've said before, "If I don't...they won't."

I didn't know that my wife posted here....lol

Just kidding Miss Mary, but your post sounded just like my wife would have posted had she been on here. (except for the immaculate houses on each side). our whole neighborhood is pretty much down to earth and not too anal about anything much, except one of my neighbors, who is 78 yrs young (wonderful man) who is out with a leaf blower blowing off his driveway if we get 1/16th inch of snow...He must have been busy here today, snow, blowing wind, cold hee hee hee, poor leaf blower is probably worn out.

Living in a retirement community, the majority of my neighbor's are over 55 years old.

The neighborhood is very quiet. The houses are close together, but you would never know it. There isn't a lot of traffic, considering the number of people that have to (and want to) go from place to place.

My problem neighbors moved about 3 months ago and we just met the new neighbors last week. I'm tellin' ya, I've NEVER seen a house sell so dang QUICK.....19 days from the listing to the closing of escrow!!

Our widow friend across the street has this "DOG" that barks 24/7-365.....you "CANNOT" sit out on the front porch because of the DA** DOG! I feel sorry for the poor thing, since Nancys husband died, she NEVER pays any attention to this dog, she feeds it and waters it, THAT'S IT!

NOW......Ed, I don't know what you'd think about MY yard, it's landscaped to a "T"......I spend HOURS weedeatin', trimmin' around EVERYTHING, especially along the chain link fence......not to brag, but our yard is PERFECT, you'd think for someone who owns a landscape maintenance business, our yard would look like HADES, on the contrary, the ONLY problem with it, well, we have 3 BIG dogs and as you mentioned about your yard, it takes a #10 COAL SHOVEL to clean our yard "LOL!" BUT........I'm the nicest guy you'd ever wanna meet "LOL!"

Dennis, you're are about as down to earth as they come. It's not the yard, it's the people.

I have great neighbors. I live on the end unit of my apartment building and the guy who does live next door is deaf, so I can turn my stereo up as loud as I want. The other neighbors are nice and watch my cat when we're out of town and sign for our UPS packages. I have no complaints whatsover.

I have pretty good neighbors, although there is a house close to ours where several college students are renting. And about once a month, one of them (or their friends) will leave a beer can or beer bottle on our yard.

We live in an older neighborhood- our apartment complex is next door to a retirement home and most of the residents are "placed" in the complex by thier kids until they can convince them to move to the other side of the fence. There are a couple of younger families- but we're few and far between- as far as I know my husband and I are the only couple in our immediate vicinity who are under 60 or don't have high school aged children (It's the cheapest complex that feeds into one of the best high schools in the city)

Our downstairs neightbor is a sweet lady named Ruth, her brother and her live in boyfriend. They're all over 65 and were thrilled to let us know that they're all close to deaf and we should feel free to enjoy being young and in love (we were working on getting married when we moved in). Next door is a crotchety lady named Gladys who likes to park crookedly in the space next to mine- but otherwise goes out of her way to avoid us- never hear a peep out of her and she's never complained about us being loud so we're cool.

I live on the end so thats it *Laughs* It's really peaceful- only older folks for the most part. We get great broadband
