I saw a 15 low for Dallas but more important than that, it drops below Freezing Sunday evening and not getting above freezing until noon on Friday

Cold but not 1989 cold

Don't know about Lindale but HLR was 18 hours of rain and 33F. My wife in Mckinney made snowmen.

HLR is between Mineola and Gilmer.

It’s not enough to make any difference, but nice to look at. It also made the wind pick up.

Same in Lindale rain all day and night with some sleet at times, 31F at the coldest but mostly 32-34F. Woke up to a slight coating of slushy sleet.

Same story in Longview. A bit of sleet on my truck windshield, and the tops of trees had some ice from freezing rain, but that's it. Never saw any snow.

Maybe a few flurries today but time to enjoy a nice week before we head back to the freezer to end the month. We have had a Kansas storm and now a Oklahoma storm so next up should be a TX storm.

Another cold blast on tap for the end of the month?

Crazy this storm ended up being almost as big as February 2022 was here(which is still the biggest storm I've seen in Tulsa) :double:

What a way to end our snow hole streak :spam:

Maybe Texas will do better next time

snownado wrote:It looks like the totals are generally in the 1-4" range across DFW. Even the areas that seemingly saw more snow than ice/rain, with upwards of 1.5" of QPF, it appears the actual snow ratios were like 5:1 or even worse (and it rarely gets as bad as that).

Not technically a bust (barely), but these amounts ended up being on the far lower end of forecasts and the storm overall was fairly underwhelming considering not only the hype leading up to the event but also how extremely close this was to being a truly major (even historic) snowstorm.

That said, for those who have been pining for any type of snow and aren't used to this type of weather (I'm a Detroit native, so this does nothing for me excitement-wise), I hope you enjoyed it! Perspective is everything and I do understand any type of snowfall in this part of the country is at a premium.

Seems like the NBM did very well for DFW then. It was never too bullish on DFW snow, even with some of the other models going much higher.

Tyler, too. We were hoping, but it was pretty consistent that we would probably not get much out of this. My BIL in Bismarck, AR, had 8 inches on the ground yesterday by 5 PM, with another 6-8 on the way. He'll have some fun today with snowmen and Tannerite.

In the end, this storm was forecasted well for NC Texas, with the NWS and other pros rightly discounting some of the crazy model totals.

The long period of rain was a downer but snow/sleet totals are about as forecast… with the storm actually over performing for a lot of folks.

Now that the last little flizzard is here, measuring off a flat patio table we got 4” of frozen precipitation. That breaks down to .5” sleet, and 3.5” of snow.

Roads are slick but are very drivable, even the side roads and neighborhood streets have a clear set of tracks to drive on. Expectation is street will mostly clear and dry by midday.

Now let's bring on the next system and winter fun :ggreen:

Yes it was! Tip of the cap to them. This one, like a lot of winter weather events in this part of the country, had a razor thin margin of big boom or bust potential. With Mother Nature and forecasting, you are going to win some and lose some...playing the middle ground is usually the best road to take!

So what's the storm looking like around the 20-22nd timeframe? A cold front next Saturday with a low over Mexico setup? :?:
