The closer you are to the 540 line or N of it, the better chance the precip will be all snow due to the air column being at freezing or below.

For novelty, here is a map you Houstonians know well.

Feb 1895. Snowing in the 20s. Think the high pressure system was upper 1040s - 1050mb.

wxman57 has this hanging on his wall. Speaking of, he has been quiet today. He does like snow so he might be getting his sled ready.

FYI, this particular setup resulted in 30 inches of snow for Beaumont. While nowhere near those amounts on models currently, there is an uptick being shown for precip amounts from this system. 6-12 inches of snow would be amazing to see. Unfortunately, I'm here in Starkville right now and have to be jealous of all that white stuff although it did snow here last Thursday around 2 inches!

That's about where you want that low developing if you're in SC TX to Houston region.

Almost a dead ringer for our forecasted setup: coastal low with northern stream too far to phase.

There's a map for earlier in the day where it did snow in much of the state from the northern stream/shortwave.

We in southern Louisiana appear to be in a sweet spot with this one. Developing low off the coast of Texas far enough south but perfectly placed with the cold air from the north. An EXTREMELY rare setup.

What’s up StormC. Run the models. Go to Precip/Moisture (bottom left) and total snowfall. You get this.

Canadian looks to be the most bullish but it’s still running.

The CMC is certainly sticking to its guns. Obviously it’s a more extreme solution, but shows what the pattern can produce with enough moisture.

CMC looks nice but I would like the 6-10 inches of snow bullseye to shift further south. Latest GFS and 18Z Euro are more supressed to the south than the CMC.
