I doubt it! The warm air comes off the gulf and blankets us with warmth!

Wow. That's an early announcement for school closures.

Yeah, I was just going to say that's wild! I've never heard of a school district closing schools about a possible weather event so far into the future.

Wow. I would think ISDs ( schools in Texas) would wait until Monday ( or maybe Sunday) before making decisions. I know my college (Houston Community College) will probably wait until Monday

Our school system just outside of Baton Rouge said they would let us know Monday at noon whether we would be in Tuesday. :)

Here in Texas we might not know about school closures until Tuesday morning.

At any rate looking like this is the peak of winter. So hopefully everyone can cash in something next week.

If the GFS would just expand slightly north, I would be happy, everybody would get something with that.

That's kinda weird and weak. Closing a few days before the event. LOL, I'm glad I live in rural Texas now. There better be ice and snow on the roads before they think about closing.

Yes, they are right that it could be unprecedented.

The school district I work at said they will be monitoring the situation. Use to be we would not know anything until we saw it on the news.

Don't think so. Pattern keeps reloading through the end of February. This is a pattern I haven't seen in a long time.

Surface temps running 6-8F warmer on GFS vs NAM at 84 hr mark. 850 temps look similar but at the surface, GFS having issues (typical)

This has been my thought since the beginning. There will be no cold rain anywhere. Now, some of the coastal folks may see ice than snow, but it won't be cold rain.

Honestly I feel like we hear this every year and it never really pans out down here I’m not getting my hopes up.

Thundersleet you guys would be ok towards Houston but us lower on the coast may not get much! What exactly happened on the Christmas 2004 miracle? Why did Victoria get so much snow and Houston didn’t? What kind of low pressure was that during that event? :)

The pattern does look to reload at the end of the month, already seeing signs of a stout - EPO ridge returning after the 27th, winter definitely isnt over after this event

Those schools are closed on Monday for the holiday, so they're closing for Tuesday and Wednesday which is when this is all supposed to happen. I suppose they could always change their minds if Lucy pulls the football on SETX and SW/SC/SELA. :)

When you mention I20 how far west are you talking? I live two miles north of 20 but will be driving back from Caddo Lake Monday evening, strait west on 20.

I am feeling pretty comfortable that I20 East of I35 get a few inches. West of I-35 could also but I want to see more data before being confident.
