What’s the MJO looking like?

MJO still has a good week of favorable movement, it will move through the MC while weakening. It won't have as strong an influence but technically still not favorable through those phases until it re-emerges in the WHEM. After the first few days of February we will likely see a possible flat Aleutian ridge appear and that will warm the southeast up and eventually us with canonical Nina. That's the ugly pattern of the past few years.

Pick your favorites. Massive amplification through 2 and 3. If it was hurricane season someone would be in trouble next week or so.

Just glanced at the Euro Weeklies and that pretty much says get your winter fix in while you can, because February definitely looks warmer (at least for now).

I read you, but not exactly uncommon when you consider our climate/region, but more importantly think about how the forecast busted for January. It's going to finish as a very cold month overall for much of the state and that's pretty significant down here so could've been much worse.

There are plenty of cold places you don’t have to deal with it. Nunavut has your name on it.

Haha. I’ll take freaky winter sleet and snow but as a born and raised Gulf of Mexican, I like my 90’s (and 60’s and 70’s in the winter). You’ll get some happy days next week. My teeth will be chattering. :).

Steve,

I am with you on Sleet/Snow. I hope we get record snowfall amounts in the Houston/Tomball area - if some of the models pan out. I was stationed in Germany and also loved working in Denver for a short time. I love a good winter like that! I don't miss the summers we have even though I am a Native Houstonian. I do agree with Strat that the temps only need to be around the mid 20s though. :D

I am with you on this. May-September is hot enough, let the cold months be cold! Anything above 50 is no bueno for me in DJF.

Haha. I hated school so summer is automatically great. I’ll be in a button up in concrete downtown New Orleans and it’s 98 and I’m smiling.

Nam giving hope to a lot more of hill country and RGV. It ends about 5am Tuesday before the snow kicks in. Looking good. Houston getting ice then (12km Nam)
