Watching TWC and the images coming from Houston and New Orleans are amazing. A lifetime treat happening in the south.
Lafayette getting hammered right now. Incredible.

Started slow, but seeing pictures of 4”+ being measured in yards in Port Neches and it’s still coming down.

Photos from my apartment in East Austin. Enough to make it kinda look pretty, lol. Went out for a little drive and there were a few slick spots, but nothing crazy.

I don't recall ever walking through the snow in boots and you can't see grass in the footprints. Pretty deep in Beaumont.

And they're in the mid 20s with all that, not the wet glop but real northern snow event type. Once in a lifetime event going on out there.

Yeah it's a drier snow than we are used to. More powdery in nature...wild to see on the Gulf Coast!

On the contrary, per video observations, it's still pretty wet/gloppy so far because the ground temps are still fairly warm and temps throughout the column are still close to freezing (so they're getting aggregates).

Crazy temps up north. Record low of -9 in Wichita, KS. Just north of my hometown was -13. Goodness.

Getting pics from family and friends in my home town of Lake Charles, LA. I'm excited for them. It's been a loooong time since Southwest LA has seen snow. They're gonna get way more than we did up in NTX a few weeks ago. Wish I was with them seeing it and eating gumbo!

Re: Texas Winter 2024-2025
So happy for my friends up in the Austin region as well as our folks across Houston metro points east into Louisiana who have been patiently waiting for their turn for quite some time. Enjoy the snow folks (blizzard warning into Louisiana crazy). Nice surprise snow here in SA as well.
Another hat tip to our local NWS offices who nailed this forecast again in addition to our own forum mets who never wavered up against the HRRR which damaged its cred a bit (at least with winter weather). Globals were probably a little overdone further north but WRF members at least had the right idea.
Some of the models already hinting at more cold down the road so perhaps we're not done just yet?

Unfortunately it looks like we are done. South of 183/I-30 got the shaft this year.

Wow, I can say this is the first time I am jealous of SW LA weather. They will get more than I did (about 3.5-4 inches) the other week. That's amazing.
Congrats S Texas folks. I do hope DFW core down through Waco will get their turn before we likely see a rapid warm-up in February.
