I am just west of New Orleans. I had over a foot of snow today. Absolutely mind blowing.

Already the coldest night since 1989 here with 13 at 10pm. Forecast low is 8 which would bring us within 2 degrees of the all time record of 6 in 1895 (today's blizzard assumed analog). I think there's a decent chance we rival that. Amazing what a 10" snowfall can do under an arctic HP!

May need to watch the 8-11 day period, the GFS 00z is hinting at a big heavy rain event setup for central and se texas as a potent slow moving upper low develops over west texas

Back in the beginning of December, I speculated that the potential pattern change may lead to a wetter weather pattern for portions of the state of Texas and that still appears to be the case so far. In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised to see a few elevated severe weather events for portions of our state through the end of February. However, I obviously underestimated the chances of colder air and snow for our region especially for South Central & SE Texas.

newest 00z CFS guidance is trending more towards a colder february, was mild the last few days, overnight ensembles do attempt at pulling back the -EPO ridge somewhat, though not directly over alaska , interesting to see some shifts on the overnight guidance that could suggest not nearly as mild for february as previously thought

I know this airmass was not record setting but it's been rather chilly the l ast few days to say the least.

Congrats to all the winners along the coast and Houston!

Being a Dallas guy congratulating Houston for anything is a hard ask....... :cheesy:

Do we know if all 50 states have snow on the ground?

From jeff:

Yesterday, January 21, 2025 resulted in one of the most significant and historic snow events along the US Gulf coast since 1895.

Forecast low for Longview was 18F, made it down to 13.3F at my house (no snow).

Hearing of all these single digits in Louisiana concerns me for this years' crawfish harvest...

Lots of winter left so that's good news. It's always sad after a major winter event when the forum goes quiet. All the build up and tracking is done for the time being. I'm ready to do it again with the hopes of a New Orleans or Pensacola type snow for DFW. Felt weird typing the previous sentence.
