Do we need a little bit of a SE ridge to help keep the cold in Texas longer and deeper without the cold shifting east?

gpsnowman typically we do want a little bit of resistance from the se ridge but obviously not too much, as for the cold exiting, well considering the NAO is going strongly negative, that arctic air would likely get trapped in place several days before slowly bleeding east

Re: Texas Winter 2024-2025
A SE ridge will help to push the cold air south into the plains, and also allow a storm system to dig more southwest. With such a setup this time the brunt of the arctic air *may* be centered around the Plains & Midwest instead of the Northeast like the previous two outbreaks were. It's a long ways to go and changes/flip flops are likely but interesting nonetheless.

That's what I was thinking. It was a Barney dagger straight into Texas.

Models overall definitely trending towards an overrunning type event to possibly accompany cold post Feb 10th. In other words, things are pointing to possible winter storm heading closer to V-day period.

While it's 300 plus hours out, considering what the teleconnection trends and MJO movement are looking like in the medium/long range, it's definitely not as crazy as what the Dallas Mavericks just did (check social media) so hey anything is possible now.

txtwister78 I saw that haha, i had to refresh my phone like 30 times to see if that trade was real, The mavericks just commited a war crime with that trade, but yeah in the weather world, the teleconnections definitely support potentially bitter cold air

I can't believe it. I can't believe Luka will miss the Valentine's Day storm. Pitchers and catchers report soon.

Cpv17 yeah no question lol, ive seen some really horrible trades over the years, but this might be the worst in all of major splrts history, not just the NBA, just makes no sense, and one that folks will be questioning for years to come

The 1989 Minnesota Vikings nod approvingly. Guess things have a way of balancing themselves out if you wait long enough!

In shock this morning looking at sports headlines and weather models….Worst Trade in Sports History and one of the coldest looking 500mb Northern Hemisphere patterns you are going to see from an ENS Mean. 570 dm Mean across Alaska at day 10 with a PV split shortly after, don’t put your winter weather gear up quite yet, winter is far from over!!
