Yeah freezing line looking close to my place by 1pm. Going to be very interesting to see this play out.

Why would you not believe the surge of Arctic air would come through several hours ahead of the models? It's a classic Blue Northern, Arctic air hours ahead of the models with that early unexpected change over to winter precipitation, mainly freezing rain/sleet before a quick change to snow before moving out. It catches everyone off guard when it's over night and you wake up to a bigger issue on the roads than was expected.

It’s about as potent of an airmass as you’ll find this late in the season….this would approach some of the records from 2021 if snow cover was around

I’ve lost count on this board at how many times we’ve seen this occur over the years. Even the higher res models take awhile to figure it out, some of the lower resolution globals don’t stand a chance with a setup like this

1. **The Chilligator** Beware of this gnarly beast, creeping down from the Arctic with icy jaws ready to chomp away at our warm weather.

2. **Frigidator Frenzy** Like a rabid refrigerator on a cold rampage, this Arctic air mass is here to turn our cozy homes into subzero freezers.

3. **The Polar Express Lane** : All aboard the Polar Express Lane! This frosty train doesn’t take passengers—it just delivers ice-cold temperatures with no stops in sight.

4. **Ice Cap-invasion** : Lock your doors and bundle up, because the Ice Cap-invasion is storming in with a chill that even Texas BBQ can't defrost.

5. **Texasy Freezeasy** The Lone Star State is about to experience a chill so severe, even your cowboy boots might need thermal socks to keep warm.

I hope these names bring a little humor to the upcoming cold snap! Stay toasty, my friend. If you need more fluffy fun, you know where to find me!

Since that's the most extreme solution hopefully it doesn't verify.

Yeah 3km NAM brings some light freezing drizzle down into the southern HC/Austin metro. Something to watch for wed morning as the front continues to move in faster and temps drop.

30s are backdooring into my area from the east. Low was supposed to be in the 40s.

Took a look at 0z tonight's temperature from the HRRR and comparison to what was shown 0z Saturday (Friday night) for 72hr. Not much down here yet but upstream. We'll have to see how much this translates further south.

HRRR 0z this evening.

Bartlesville 45 minutes from here actually has a chance at 18 inches on the Tulsa probability graphic  :double:  this is crazy I've never seen a storm like this here. I don't know if we'll reach our full potential in Tulsa but we're gonna try it appears

Front on the western end is just north of OKC and Amarillo. Is fascinating that it's a northeasterly wind first. I was joking around earlier with LES, but it wouldn't surprise at all as the mid level moisture crosses by with a surface NE wind from low->higher ground. Happened last January.
