System Information: STRONG TROPICAL STORM GARANCE
Maximum winds (averaged over 10 minutes) estimated at sea: 100 km/h.
Estimated maximum gusts at sea: 150 km/h.
Estimated pressure at center: 982 hPa.
Position on March 1 at 04:00 local time: 25.9 South / 54.7 East.
Distance from the Reunion coast: 510 km to the sector: SOUTH
Distance from Mayotte: 1760 km to the sector: SOUTH-SOUTH-EAST
Movement: SOUTH, at 31 km/h.
Key messages:
- GARANCE was downgraded to a severe tropical storm after passing over Reunion Island. The storm is rapidly moving away from the island as it continues south.
- The weather is improving tonight on the island. Gusts of around 80 to 100 km/h are still possible in the highlands of the island.
- Over the next few days, GARANCE is expected to continue moving away from inhabited land and will begin to lose its tropical characteristics by the end of the weekend.
