Are there any conversations about the potential of a polar vortex collapse in a week or two?

https://www.newsweek.com/winter-weather ... ex-2039554

"A polar vortex collapse is expected over the next two weeks, bringing extreme winter weather and potential travel disruptions across North America."

Final warmings occur every year and is the lore of chilly Easters as the NHEM shifts to warm season and cold is expelled from the higher latitudes as the strat PV collapses until it reforms late in the Fall.

Driving W on FM 1960, the sun faded then disappeared completely into the haze just before sunset. Practice STAAR today, didn't have devices to pop in during lunch.

FWD has re-issued the Wind Advisory (after it initially expired) until 9am tomorrow, as the winds have been much slower to subside than expected.

Looks like 10 years ago today we had quite a bit of snow on the ground in Denton. My photos on my One Drive memories popped up.

I have a horrible feeling this could be like 2011 but possibly even worse. The only way we could dodge a disaster would be some well placed heavy rain events but as of now, little hope.

One reason why 2011 may not be the best analog is because the ENSO state isn't really similar. It's debatable we're even in a true La Nina (a cold neutral state, certainly), whereas 2011 was in a pretty solid Nina state.

If anything, this past winter was a lot more Nino-esque pattern-wise...

I’m still going to stick with my prediction of a wetter pattern for our region for the latter part of this year - essentially the opposite of last year. Tropical influences upon the state during the summer months are always a wildcard every year of course.

MARGINAL RISK for parts of E Texas this weekend but NAMs aren't feeling it. But a return to the winter weather thread for Texas is possible for the Panhandle members. Someone has to be from the Panhandles.

There are no actual people in the panhandle. Kidding.

Broken record territory, but unfortunately no sign of meaningful rain the next two weeks across SC TX from the ensembles. In fact, fire danger will only grow as the pacific systems eject out over the plains bringing dry dessert air along with high wind threats across West/SC TX. CPC already highlighting another high wind threat late next week across a good portion of the state.

Hopefully this summer/La Nina pattern breaks late March into April.

Yeah the outlook for the next 2 weeks is downright depressing. About as bad as it gets down here with several rounds of extreme fire conditions. Really hope it changes late this month.

Meanwhile apparently Oklahoma is over halfway to a record number of tornadoes for March and it's the first week  :double:

Oh but thankfully we got rid of the awful cold and snow

I doubt it changes. I expect the drought to expand and get much worse into April.
