From a bad hail storm and severe weather on Friday night, to flurries on Saturday night, to a freeze and heavy frost this morning. What a wild Spring weather weekend.

Some totals put out by NWS Amarillo. Biggest totals were the southern side of I-40 near Amarillo.

Yep, I have lived on the Gulf coast my whole life so I am not used to the dynamic weather up here. The weather can be crazy here to say the least and the weather nerd in me is loving every minute of it. LOL

Nice to see the sun and yet not have a crazy heat ridge yet. Nice spring weather.
Enjoy it while we can. Lol.

Quick look at GFS and ensembles for rainfall, less than half an inch S of I-10.

We actually got down to 37° as well this morning in Round Rock. Quite chilly.

Re: Texas Spring 2025
What an active severe weather period that was over the last couple of weeks. Models continue to be in agreement that another multi day period of severe weather will be returning in the 2nd half of April. And looks to be centered in the central and southern plains at this time.

Re: Texas Spring 2025
There are still remnants of the final warming going on (one of the earliest at that) so probably a couple more cool shots. Not sold on severe weather yet, because the +SOI spike earlier month lags so very dry and stable period.
Though we are now getting -SOI, perhaps closing days and in May will get more active and wetter.

Re: Texas Spring 2025
Looking at the GFS and Euro ensembles, pretty dry, an inch or less of rain S of I-10. This is how droughts get started,

If the 70s or even rain-cooled 60s is the extent of any subsequent cool spells from here on out, I can live with that.

Yeah nothing extreme. Upper pattern is too stable for large precipitation events with ridging in the intermountain west -> NW upper flow.

And frankly, what we're getting now would be run-of-the-mill July/August weather for areas along/north of 40* Latitude.

Re: Texas Spring 2025
Mid April and veyond is trending hotter and much drier in the models across the entire state, if you like rain, you’re out of luck because it surely isnt looking good for that , ridging becomes stronger

Latest CPC outlook really broadened the Above Average area the next 2 weeks, covering all of the Plains / Texas.
