Rain fell close to me more than 3/4 around the compass today and my corner of the world avoided every drop. Talk about mad skillz. We will see if we can cash in on Monday. I'm jealous of the thunder club. Some places have been cashing in for days like it's July. Still 3-4 weeks of dry climo in coastal west central FL so hopefully mother nature provides a bridge loan..

HurricaneBelle wrote:This time of year those of us on the west coast are like kids stuck inside watching the other kids playing in the street - the easterlies haven't yet set up but it's now warm and moist enough for storms which develop around I-75 and move and build east.

At least we're forecasted to get help from an upper low and its surface reflection to get some significant rains on this side of the state tomorrow and Monday so there's that.

That kinda sucks. Meaning, outside of this upper low & associated surface wave of low pressure....those of you living west (or well west) of I-75 are often left waiving to the newly developing convection while beginning its crawl toward the East coast. I guess that flips around if/when there's a far more stacked ridge east of Florida with a deep easterly flow at all levels.

Good sleeping weather for much of the state. Can't say that this weather is all that dynamic but I'll be plenty happy to just get these weak cells to keep on training through the spine of the state. I'm still not convinced that this'll be the drought buster that most of us need.

Back to this miserable pattern. No relief in sight for another week, the help from two days of showers will likely be canceled out. Kind of depressing, rainy season needs to hurry up.

So much for my prior proclamation that the rainy season (at least for Central Florida), has arrived  This blocky dry pattern is quickly undoing what little good last week's rain provided. Any of you guys got an inexpensive thunderstorm for sale?

Some much-needed rain in Pinellas thanks to some pretty massive pre-dawn storms with a late May front, recorded 2.21" at la casa in Clearwater.

It's finally here - the summer rainy season on the Florida west coast. After a surprise round of storms at dawn yesterday nobody forecasted we had storms develop around I-75 and move back towards the coast later in the day, and today our rain chances are 80% with ESE flow.

The annual dump fest has arrived. right on schedule. June 10 is the magic date for reliable rains making it to the Gulf beaches and off the coast

Meanwhile those of us on the east coast are still dry. This ridge won't budge, there's non stop SAL filtering in every few days. So much working against moisture. I can imagine the drought monitor will show increased drought conditions on the SE coast after these this dry week on Thursday.

When the rains do fall again, its going to be the same risk where the soil is too dry and flash flooding occurs... whenever that will be. Could be July at this rate :(

This dry pattern we are stuck in here in SE Florida is getting old,I feel like i live in Phoenix Arizona. The Bermuda high has to weaken so the atmosphere can moisten up and stop blocking these systems away from our area. I think this is the driest June I ever witnessed. This pattern has to change soon it’s honestly boring.

Yes indeed quite a staunch Bermuda High. All the storms over SW Florida each day and minimal storms over the east coast save an isolated shower off the ocean. Reminds more a lot of the 2017 pattern at this same time. Hopefully not the same pattern come peak hurricane time.

Here on the west coast we've been in a bizarre pattern where the traditional afternoon sea breeze storms have become late night storms moving into the Tampa area around 11:30PM and through Pinellas in the early AM hours. This has happened three of the last four nights and this morning I awoke to see I had 2 inches of rain at my house overnight on top of the half-inch I got during an afternoon storm.

I don't ever remember a multi-day pattern of sea breeze-driven summer storms hitting overnight - and coming from the south and east - in my nearly 50 years in Florida.

On the SE coast, it's just dry, dry, dry. Constant southeasterly flow of varying strength, anything that develops in the afternoon already develops well inland and pushes off to the NW. Passing morning shower, if you're lucky. Looking at the models, it doesn't seem like there is any end in sight to this, either.

I miss the mostly stagnant summer days with no real predominant mean flow, where storms just fire off in all directions along outflow boundaries. This is shaping up to be another poor quality rainy season.

June is our rainiest month of the year.

The sweet sound of thunder...for the 3rd time today. As thundery as it's been...I keep missing the jackpot rain totals...but plenty of folks close by are cashing tickets so I'm good with that..

15 minutes of hail here this evening. Dimes to quarter and enough to show in the turf and pavement at peak. Quite impressive and st pete clearwater airport has plummeted to just 73 degrees. That part is great

Hail here in Clearwater for several minutes. Surprised the sh… out of me. Haven’t seen hail in Florida in maybe 2 decades. Quite a sight and sound.

The firehose is on today in Clearwater - after 1.75 inches from some storms at dawn and another half-inch from various showers this afternoon, we're getting another massive round right now and I'm at 3.22 inches for the day and counting, gonna be pushing 4 looking at the radar by the time the day is done.

EDIT: Fell just short of 4" at 3.85
