"Cat In The Hat" falls flat

#1 Postby TexasStooge » Fri Nov 21, 2003 1:25 pm

By GARY COGILL / WFAA-TV

Hide your children and run for cover. The Cat in the Hat is a miserable excuse for a family film. Mike Myers plays the popular feline from literature attempting to turn a boring afternoon into chaotic fun. Dakota Fanning and Spencer Breslin play the children and Alec Baldwin plays a creepy neighbor who finds pleasure in threatening kids in this mean-spirited, potty-mouth movie.

The problem with The Cat in the Hat has nothing to do with acting and everything to do with bad writing. Compassion and cleverness have been replaced with double-entendres and vulgarity.

The Cat in the Hat is rated a messy PG. First-time filmmaker Bo Welch directs it. Every frame of his movie is condescending to children and insulting to parents. Dr. Seuss' original book remains magical and whimsical, but this film version is nothing more than an offensive fur ball.

This "glowing" review is making it less likely that I would want to see the movie. And I was not really interested in the first place.

I didn't care for the Grinch either.

But I still Love "Dr. Seuss" and think his books are great.

I wasn't interested in it from the beginning- but that confirms the sour feeling I was getting from the trailers.

I guess I'll be going to see it now. IMO when I hear a poor review (one man's opinion) I usually think the oppposite. Too many people put too much stock in the reviews anyway.

Gary Cogill is a very well know movie critic and interviews allot of the big stars. He give a very fare review of a movie and looks at it from all sides.
If he doesn't feel the movie is up to par he will tell you and you can take bank on it.

The Cat in the Hat
Did it fall flat?
Reviewers stink
Like someone shat.

I'll have to see
Myself (that's me)
If the movie's truly
Fit to see.

i really don't listen to what the critics say. I read them sometimes but what they say doesn't deter me from seeing it or make it one I have to see.
I'll be going to the Cat In The Hat probably next week. And i hope Elf is as good as it looks.

Just seeing the characters in the Post Office makes me not want to take my children. They are "nightmarish".

It sure took 1st place by storm! People are wanting to see "The Cat in the Hat," but apparently aren't liking it, according to the reviews.
