Tornado on the ground and no warning, JFC. Unreal.

Forgive my original post here, but it did seem to be a clear tornado.

What tornado are we talking about guys, there's nothing on the radar I'm seeing and nobody on the news is covering it. I'm pretty sure people are paying attention, what are you guys reporting?

Are you talking about the burst north of the radar site but south of Fort Worth proper? I'm pretty sure that was the fact that the radar is right there and it just spins and makes it look worse than it is?

There was a debris ball per Meteorologist Eric Graves and several others. Definitely on the ground just south of FW awhile back.

I'm seeing all kinds of posts on Facebook but no one actually has proof. Just a lot of complaining and how this weather has never happened before

The reflectively doesn't tell me anything. You gotta look at CC

That was super close to the radar yeah

I guess maybe there was a spinup briefly a couple times

The Radar Geometry Effect
- Doppler radar measures motion toward or away from the radar, not across it. When a storm passes directly overhead, the radar beam is nearly perpendicular to the wind flow, which can distort velocity readings.
- North of the radar, the beam may intersect winds moving toward and away from the radar in close proximity, creating a false couplet — a classic tornado-like signature.

Beam Crossing and Velocity Folding
- Velocity folding (aliasing) occurs when wind speeds exceed the radar’s Nyquist velocity (the max speed it can measure). This can cause inbound winds to appear outbound and vice versa, mimicking rotation.
- Beam crossing angles near the radar site are small, making it harder to distinguish true rotation from linear wind shear.

Radar Proximity and Sampling Bias
- Close to the radar, the beam is sampling very low in the atmosphere, where small-scale turbulence and outflow boundaries can appear more intense.
- Sampling bias can exaggerate small features, especially in high-resolution velocity data.

Misleading Tornado-Like Signatures
- These false spin-ups often appear in storm-relative velocity (SRV) products, which subtract storm motion to highlight internal circulations.
- SRV can amplify apparent rotation near the radar due to the geometry and motion subtraction, even when no tornado exists.

When a False Debris Ball Might Appear
- Close to the radar, small-scale clutter (like buildings, trees, or terrain) can contaminate CC and reflectivity, especially during heavy rain or hail.
- Beam overshoot or ground clutter can mimic low CC values, but they usually don’t coincide with a true debris ball signature (which requires high reflectivity + low CC + strong velocity couplet).

I was in that mid cities area, and after the initial straight line winds of the bowing echo, it's hardly windy at all. Lightning, thunder, and heavy rain though.

I'm not doubting something may have happened, but wow if there was a tornado then yeah I guess there needs to be some accountability, but I'm not sure what happened.

Probably a typical QLCS tornado. Hard to warn for. They poof as quick as they drop

Sucks it was such a highly populated area

Well anyway I do feel I was over the top a bit on that.

On other news, I am up to 2.66 as the back edge approaches with some lighter echoes building out to the west still.

So, a great rain here!

We'll have to see what happened when they survey the damage. First it's been dark, not sure how a tornado could be seen with heavy rain and wind also around it. Second 65-70mph straight line and ef0 (if it were one) both could do some damage and hard to distinguish in real time, again in the dark.

Yeah I mean I do see evidence of a debris ball on a couple frames but beyond that I'm really questioning this

First it's a very highly populated area and everyone has a camera in 2025

And the only thing Ive seen a picture of is trees down. So impressive. Give me something better than that

The lack of pictures is amazing and telling. We knew instantly in 2019....

Over 3 inches now so this delivered.

On damage I see no photos of the roof damage claimed by some.

Just trees. So who knows.

Now people saying it wasn't even a tornado after everyone had a fit :spam: sounds like social media this whole year

We won't know for sure til morning but I would have expected a lot more evidence by now if it was real

Yeah in the age of youtube stream warnings, and sometimes hard to verify social media images I can see the issue. Again no doubt there were very strong winds with some localized tree/power and signs being blown down...shingles too doesn't mean tornado. But we will know soon enough.

Contrary DFW is closing in on 3" of liquid for the month!
