That 30 mile swath of 180mph with higher gust will be wiped clean. Nothing left. I hope they got out.

Melissa always makes me want to run out of words after every advisory. And she did exactly just that yet again. Who would've thought we'd relive the Labor Day hurricane? This is bonkers.

Structure and size wise it feels most like Andrew. Absolutely awful for Jamaica

Recon circling the eye- continual sub-900 extrapolated pressures. What I wouldn't give to be a crew member on that flight... what an incredible hurricane. I'm in shock.

Just tracking the plane of flightaware: https://www.flightaware.com/live/flight/975303 and looks like this next update will still be in the eye. Hard to tell because radar is a bit delayed on the wbsite but potentially an attempt at going into the NW eyewall before heading back into the eye? Strange

concrete walls will stay up but very few roofs will. Hopefully everyone gets out.

Hurricanes at equivalent wind speeds do far less wind damage than tornadoes, this isn't a massive EF4 tornado.

I'm not a meteorologist, I'm an electronics engineer. While I can probably fix your toaster oven, you're not going to learn about storms from me!

New Mexico had no hurricanes. Then I moved to NC right before Fran.....

Another HDOB with recon circling the eye, hopefully this is for data collection and they're not having trouble penetrating the eyewall. There was an 892.3mb extrap measurement.

Latest set of data has extrap down to 892.3 mb. While they are less reliable than dropsonades (as people are discussing above), it could indicate that Melissa is still deepening.

There's another reading of 892.7 mb.

Likely more intense than Milton now. Maybe 894mb?

I am by no means a professional. DO NOT look at my forecasts for official information or make decisions based on what I post.

Goal: to become a registered expert over tropical and subtropical cyclones.
