Granted that one has a tendency to change at this range but certainly not a good sign for cold lovers.

I think it performed very poorly. It was predicting an icebox for December.

Yep, a few weeks ago people were saying the Euro Weeklies were cold for Texas in December.

This was one of the warmest, if not the warmest, patterns for Christmas period back in 2021 (+13F for Dec yikes).

Pains to post it, but hopefully something changes. Maybe January.

The cold is there, just nothing to send it this way as of right now. Source region looks primed.

Never thought I'd see a 2021 Christmas pattern like that again, and definitely not so soon. Crazy really.

Hopefully we get a trend of a flatter SE ridge, and get that trough out in the west further east, it still is 12-14 days out, so plenty of time for things to improve

Still seeing a stormy signal for Christmas. It's better than warm and dry :spam:

I heard the SOI went negative too. I think it's gonna be warm probably but maybe it can at least be cloudy

For Texas? Interesting.

I actually think it hit pretty well on where the core of the cold was centered (upper Midwest into interior NE)

I think toward the start of November it was more bullish for TX?

Man if we can get that blocking in the pacific to just shift 200-250 miles to the east, that would setup a nice - EPO signature , its so close too

At least Jan-Feb 2022 delivered some decent cold and winter wx. Of course then we had summer of 2022. Hard pass.

I remember being worried when people were hyping the Thanksgiving cold that we would waste it and that would be it :spam:

It only got pushed back a week? But all we had was like 5 flakes and an icy bridge and now here we are

There have been a couple years here when it never really snowed in January and February after an early event. It's the worst case scenario

I don't think(hope lol) it's very likely this year but it's gonna be there as a possibility until proven otherwise

We need a lot of help upstream for sure before I get interested in some big change

The ensembles will adjust if it gets cold again with the right teleconnections

Like I said I hope it doesn't happen(I can't even imagine if it does) and it probably won't

But.... The cynical side of me won't be forgetting about it til it snows

The ski resorts need help for sure

Models are now in very good agreement that Christmas week will be warm. Here in Houston, lows in the upper 60s and highs in the upper 70s or even 80. There does not appear to be any mechanism to deliver Arctic cold from northern Canada to the Southern Plains through the end of December. Typical La Nina winter pattern. Perhaps the pattern may change sometime in January. This type of pattern often does change, for a time, mid-winter. I was just thinking back to the winters of 1985-86 and 1995-96. Houston reached the lower 90s in February. Best winters ever. It's another '95-'96 winter. Can we do it again?
