Re: Texas Winter 2025-2026
The last cold core snow setups up here were January 2023 and February 2024.Elevation plays a a factor when it comes to borderline cold core setups.

What happened when cool days, maybe near 50F the day before in full sun is followed by snow because of very low dewpoints and an upper level low passing.
We have not had success with this in a long time. Warming climo isn't helping the borderline ULL events, DFW success in those are now more likely in Oklahoma comparatively. It will take something extremely anomalous. H5 temps have been on the rise slowly.
Ntxw, if the mjo stays active and moves, the Pacific should align to match and give us a few opportunities at cold and wintry weather imo.

I had to watch the early 2000s Snow Day movie to get my snow fix. It was a favorite of mine. I hope we get some cold. Lol.

Lol I saw a TV forecast of 72 yesterday up here for New Years Day and the 0z Euro has a high of 32
Even has a hint of precip it appears
I think we just need to relax and enjoy the holidays if things can change that quickly
I'm pretty sure we'll get cold at some point like it's only December. Even our warmest winters have. Snow is never guaranteed of course even up here

Because it's going to be so warm the next few days any cold that we do get will melt anything on impact because the ground is so warm it won't stick.

Besides near-record highs, DFW's also set to shatter the record high-minimums for the next several days.

After a warm week this will feel nice. Lows for early next week on the "conservative" NBM.

On this day back in 1989 was the peak for some of the big cold wave so many of us recall or talk about. Was a monster 1055mb+ high funneling down from the Dakotas and Nebraska.

Yes I live 60 miles SW of New Orleans. Went visit grandparents that live 3 hours away. Was 13 at the time. Came home to busted pipes through the ceiling. And a flooded house. So much damage. It did snow though . We got down to 9 degrees

Re: Texas Winter 2025-2026
just last week, we were talking about this blow torch pattern continuing all month with no cold air in sight, now it looks like we get a pretty strong front just before new years eve, it truely is embarrassing how bad the models have been with seeing cold air in the long range, that gives me hope the rest of this winter

The front(s) are a nice reprieve, but they are still only getting back down to near average, or slightly below. If it were November or early December this would be more noteworthy but for lowest climo of the year it's not going to dent much. And it may still be above normal to start the days of the new year. I'm with you though anything is better than the full out torch.
The east, particularly northeast US has been the epicenter of cold shots. Hopefully that changes soon.

Another thing I'd like to mention is the best storms here last winter were all a surprise pretty much
I know the Gulf storm wasn't but yeah up here(even that we got a little and it wasn't even close to our storm!)
I'm not giving up on anything but yeah I've just learned that a lot of years even up here the snow is random

Re: Texas Winter 2025-2026
So we're going to get a 1 or 2 day return to temps around or maybe slightly below normal late this weekend / early next week before headed back into an above normal temp pattern.
Big whoop!
And the month will still end up above average, despite some of the predictions...

Lol its baby steps but its progress, but even if it just brings temperatures down to near average or slightly below, models last week werent even showing any signs of a cool down, I hope this repeats all winter lol

2025 also remains in the running for the warmest on record at DFW (yes, surpassing 2024).

Re: Texas Winter 2025-2026
Ntxw worth watching the shortwave around the 29th as their are hints at some moisture interacting with the cold air coming down as the shortwave swings through, its about 6-6.5 days out so worth watchibg the trends, dont think anything crazy will come of this, but just a little something i noticed in model guidance
