MODERATE TROPICAL STORM GRANT

Estimated maximum wind speeds (averaged over 10 minutes) at sea: 65 km/h.

Estimated maximum gusts at sea: 95 km/h.

Estimated pressure at the center: 999 hPa.

Position on January 2nd at 04:00 local time: 15.9 South / 67.6 East.

Distance from the coast of Réunion: 1370 km to the East-Northeast sector

Distance from Mayotte: 2440 km to the sector: EAST

Movement: WEST, at 6 km/h.

System information:

- Moderate tropical storm GRANT is located approximately 610 km northeast of Rodrigues.

- Grant is expected to continue weakening by Saturday, with tropical depression intensity forecast for Friday. It could even weaken to a tropical disturbance by Saturday. Its subsequent track is expected to pass more than 400 km north of the Mascarene Islands.

- From Sunday onwards, the intensity forecast becomes very uncertain: the majority scenario favoured by the current CRMS forecast suggests a system remaining weak until the beginning of next week, but this will need to be confirmed.

Information for Réunion and/or Mayotte:

- Regarding Reunion Island, according to the current preferred scenario and regardless of the intensity of the phenomenon, GRANT should circulate at the beginning of next week at a good distance to the north/northwest of the island without significant influence on the island.

- No influence is expected on Mayotte.

Information for other areas of the basin:

A passage near Saint-Brandon is expected between Sunday and Monday, possibly accompanied by heavy thunderstorms.

TROPICAL DEPRESSION GRANT

Estimated maximum wind speeds (averaged over 10 minutes) at sea: 55 km/h.

Estimated maximum gusts at sea: 75 km/h.

Estimated pressure at the center: 1002 hPa.

Position on January 2nd at 4 PM local time: 15.3 South / 66.7 East.

Distance from the coast of Réunion: 1320 km to the East-Northeast sector

Distance from Mayotte: 2340 km to the sector: EAST

Movement: NORTH-WEST, at 9 km/h.

System information:

- On Friday, January 2nd, GRANT continued to weaken and was downgraded to a tropical depression. It is located approximately 600 km northeast of Rodrigues.

- GRANT is expected to continue to weaken by this weekend, on a trajectory oriented towards the northwest and then the west-southwest.

- In the longer term, the remnants of the GRANT system are expected to circulate north of the Mascarene Islands, moving southwest. The most likely scenario suggests the system will remain weak and dissipate off the coast of Madagascar; however, this forecast remains uncertain.
