North Texas could well see the freeze line by midday Friday. The coverage and QPF within a Arctic air mass across the southern half of the USA is near unprecedented. We are looking at a massive portion of the US under winter storm warnings from this.

Yeah I'm getting concerned here in Longview seeing consistent 2"+ QPF bullseyes over us and still being north of places like Lufkin or College Station that could be closer to borderline with temps. If it's gotta be ice, then I pray it's sleet and not freezing rain. Hoping to see a colder trend upstairs for more snow and less ice!

Making up my grocery list and asking Mrs. Portastorm to hit HEB midweek. Once the general public here starts buying what the TV mets are selling … it’ll be widespread panic! LOL. I suspect the NWS will slow roll their forecast as they always do … so the more sensational forecasts likely will be on TV and social media.

Too late for that. I went to HEB today and the store was packed. Had a line trying to get into the garage. I figured I'd beat the crowds by going today but didn't work out.

Yep, throw the GFS out at this point. Stick with King Euro at 5h. NAM already breaking our precip across a wide area Friday morning as frz line surges south

Nearly all of the high qpf >1" winter storms generally are a phase or partial phase of the polar and subtropical jet. Last Jan was one but not at the right time (for us) the last real big phase was probably December 2013.

The TV forecasts here range from 3 to 13 inches so far

In both cases the higher totals are closer to 40 and 44 also not way south

Schools will have a difficult call for Friday. If it breaks out early enough, they might as well just call the day. I don't expect school for DFW Monday either if it's as severe as progged. If it's sleet with some snow on top, it will be cold.
