Oklahoma snow (heaviest southern Oklahoma) Abilene-DFW-Texarkana swims in sleet, freezing rain to south of Waco on 0z GFS.
Very long duration event.

Well the GFS is trending back from its one crazy 18z run. QPF and frozen precip hasn't really been a problem with it other than that one run. Still think it's struggling with the handling of arctic air further south

Ya the gfs keeps the moisture up above Victoria to Houston… it’s like the freezing temps don’t make it this far south! We just need it to be a little more delayed and then come across after the front…

I had a feeling the Euro would win out eventually over the GFS
Of course we still got a long way to go

The GFS also brings frozen precip to the coast.

QPF wise this has the making of historic event. You don't see this everyday, any day really no less with that kind of HP.

Someone mentioned December in the 1920s Hillsboro. December 1929. Too bad most reanalysis doesn't go back that far or at least that I have found for that time period. I reckon that had QPF >2 in central Texas.

Yeah, this has the makings of something truly historic, a 36 hr plus event of non-stop moderate to heavy precip with temps in the mid-lower 20s. Feb 2021 is on the table

The CMC looks convective. Wouldn't surprise me at all to see thundersleet and thundersnow out of this.

Warm nose watching will not be for the faint of heart lol. I am hoping that snow line will sink further south.

Nada. It’s 4-5 days out. I have a neutral opinion on the GFS and no dog in the argument. But it literally just hit winter weather in the south 2 days ago mostly as a lone wolf model for over a week. Doesn’t mean squat for next weekend but I wouldn’t bet money against it either. It may have the ice too far south. But there’s time to adjust either way.
