We've had very, very, light freezing drizzle for a couple of hours. Having lived in this area for close to 40 years, this seems to be a setup for one of our famous ice storms.

I hope it ends up being sleet, but I'm prepared to cut branches in the middle of the night.

It's crazy how it's freezing on the south shore of lake Somerville, but still 35 all around B/CS. Just those few miles have made a huge difference with the shadow effect today. It will eventually wash out but it's still pretty stubborn.

I went to what TAMU calls texas university (sic) and I give better than I take on an SEC Facebook thread but the University of Texas dropped its met program over 50 years ago. I did audit some classes taught by Aggie grad Troy Kimmel and a professor whose name I do not recall but who had a thick German accent.

Anyway, hat tip to our Aggie friends doing a special balloon sounding helping HGX. BTW, mid 50s in the warm nose is impressive.

Modifying a special 18z sounding from Texas A&M University for colder temperatures
indicated later indicates a classic freezing rain sounding with temperatures around +12C in the inversion aloft, and a small
pocket of subfreezing air near the surface.

I'm not sure how old you are, but I took a meteorology class at Texas in the early 90's where Kimmel would teach on some days.

When I went to Tech in the 1990's, they had several undergrad Met courses but not a degree in Meteorology, just a B.S. in Geosciences, and a Master's & Ph. D. in Atmospheric Science. But no undergrad Met degree - had to go to A&M or OU for that, specifically.

It’s been nothing but snow here all day off and on light snow. It never got above 13* all day and it’s 10.9* right now with light snow and heavier snow moving closer from the South.

I think DFW will have a couple rather large waves tonight. One will arrive with what's currently entering near Del Rio. The other is near El Paso currently. Merging is possible.

Man we have been in the exact wrong place here in Norman. Band after band has gone either north into OKC/Edmond or south to Purcell. Essentially had a clear slot all day--still sitting at approximately 3-4 inches which is still awesome, but easily could've been closer to 6 if we were just a bit north. Hopefully that trend doesn't continue into the "main event" tonight.

After this second round exits the forecast area Sunday morning,
some scattered snow showers will likely linger into the afternoon
per CAMs such as the HRRR, with potential additional light
snowfall. In addition, favorable northwest surface winds,
saturated and weakly unstable low level thermodynamic profiles,
and still-warm lake water could allow for lake effect snow near
and downwind of the larger North Texas lakes.
