Well this weekend turned out unfortunate. My in-laws home caught fire from the chimney. They are safe, just displaced. Between the fire, smoke and water damage from putting it out, it looks like a total loss. They will salvage what they can and start over. Keep those chimneys cleaned out and be careful everyone.

Just wanted to share. We will be helping them as we can once roads improve, no need to add more into the mix now.

How terrible. We just found out my wife's grandmother on her dad's side had a tree fall on her home in Tennessee. The kitchen is now open to the sky. That ice storm was something else.

You know this storm might not have broken records here like people expected or hoped for but wow...to be on the higher end of storms and be this cold is really something. There's already places below zero in the state before 9pm. This is pretty crazy ngl

I bet the schools will be closed or virtual most of the week because our warmest high showing up is 33 and I mean it's gonna be in a mess in the neighborhoods and wherever it's shady all week because it never warms up enough

Skies are starting to clear and winds have died down. How low will we go?

It’s really impressive cold! DFW is setting several January records with this which is something substantial considering the time of year

These are the “easiest” records to break in January - 12 on 1/25, 1/26, and 1/27. Most other daily records for the month are in the single digits or lower.

My father in law in Henderson had about 0.5" freezing rain and an inch of sleet. Lost power at 12:30 am. We went to go pick him up tonight because its getting cold. After a nasty drive there and back we noticed the power just came back on.

looking at the ensembles coming in now, I really dont see much in the way of a warm over the next 2-3 weeks, maybe a brief 1-2 day warmup after this next arctic front this weekend, but overall looks rather chilly these next couple of weeks, and already as we get into february the ensembles show the west coast ridging popping off into alaska again, but also a strong - NAO greenland block developing, in addition the models are trending toward possibly a big trough centered over the central US toward the end of the first week of february , all this to say is that winter is in firm control and looks to stay that way over the next 30-40 days
