DFW Last 4 January’s has seen winter Precip in excess of at least 1 inch… so uncommon being that prior to Jan 2023 , the last time 1 inch or more was observed at DFW Airport in the month of Jan was 2003…. Most of DFW winter precip occurs in Feb. has not been the case since 2022….

Also very notable to see Jan Record Low set back in Jan 2024 was the first low minimum since Jan 1985….. DFW set Low Maximum Jan 25Th, 2026 before that other Low maximums were Jan2024, Jan 2017 Jan 1997 Jan 1985. I say all of this to say these recent Arctic outbreaks are impressive to challenge records from the Vintage hard Winters of yesteryear.

Perhaps we can squeeze and inch or two out of this before it is all said and done

It's been amazing I have played more hockey in these last 3 days with my sons then I can count. It's been an awesome time!

Kids’ school district (where my wife also works) closed for tomorrow. Glad I spent 3 hours clearing the driveway.

By the way, it should be at least warm enough that you can use your garden hose to help melt the ice. Running water works great when you don’t have heat, as long as it has somewhere to run off before it gets below freezing again.

Ntxw yup! I love especially seeing that strong- NAO block on the EPS, that would trap the cold air in place but also force the storm track southward, could be looking at a 2-3 week period of well below normal temperatures starting around the 10th through the end of the month potentially and maybe lingering into march somewhat depending on what happens with the PV

IIRC, 2021 broke a crazy long stretch of no record lows for DFW.

At one point in the last couple of years I added up the record highs and record high minimums at DFW against the record lows and record low maximums. Since 2000.

It’s really incredible and scary the difference between those numbers. Some will say UHI has an effect on the trends. That’s true to some degree but you can run a similar analysis on any weather station in Texas (rural or urban) and get similar findings.

Anyway, here’s hoping we buck the trend the rest of this winter. “Summer is coming” and the chances of duplicating last year’s tame version are small as we know.

18z GFS, yes I know it's 300+ hours out but another piece. Look at that -AO.

Some of this snow up here might make it to the weekend front at this point haha

And to think again... We were pretty much the worst case scenario for snow amounts here. The very low end of the projections  it's really funny when you look at it from that perspective

Yep the ground here is still completely covered with snow, very little melting has occurred.

There's still some crusted sleet clinging on in the shady and north facing areas here at the Rain Cave. Hopefully that's all I see this winter. I would prefer an extended wet period but nothing frozen.

Also far out, but it does look like the cold will exit Canada into MT this time around, so maybe a more favorable PNA for the central U.S..

Topped out around 40 today under constant clouds. Had a band of snow on radar but nothing reached the ground. Highways are mainly clear. Side roads are slushy. Another day of no school for kids. Baseball practice tomorrow on our teams private field could be fun to let them play a bit on the ice before sending them inside to finish practice.
