Re: Texas Spring 2026
My plane landed with about 10 minutes to spare. It was pouring by the time I got to my truck. Driving through Dallas at night in a deluge is not fun.

Re: Texas Spring 2026
Beneficial rain in the I-35/Edwards recharge zone. Good thing, looks fairly dry the next 15 days.

Re: Texas Spring 2026
The general Austin metro received about 1 1/2" of rainfall in the last week. Not as much as we need or hoped for, but I guess it's better than nothing.

I'm up to 3 inches for March, so not a bad start. Hopefully Texas will be very wet region-wide for April.

Re: Texas Spring 2026
Worst of both worlds, a bowing segment approaching with possible wind damage but the line is thin so I'm not sure how much rain we get. HRRR total rain less than half an inch.

Re: Texas Spring 2026
NWS FTW.LONG TERM...
(Thursday through Tuesday)
Issued at 124 AM CDT Wed Mar 11 2026
A nice, cool Thursday will be in store following a cold start to
the day as high pressure settles in. Winds will become light and
skies should clear, giving way to sunny skies and highs in the
60s. South winds will return Thursday night and Friday as the
surface ridge exits to the east. Return flow along with weak
ridging aloft will lead to a warming trend starting Friday, with
highs in the 70s and 80s both Friday and Saturday. On Sunday, a
large scale upper trough will deepen over the eastern half of the
CONUS, driving another strong cold front south through the Plains
and eventually into North Texas Sunday afternoon. The front will
surge south through all of the area Sunday evening, initiating
another round of cold and breezy weather. Sunday night lows in the
30s and 40s will lead to wind chills ranging from the upper 20s
in the northwest to the upper 30s in the southeast by daybreak
Monday. High pressure aloft will amplify dramatically Tuesday
onward, quickly warming things up by the middle of next week.

Looks like a dry rest of the month, hearing some more talk about this upcoming summer being much like 2023 despite that summer being an el nino

It takes a few months for the atmospheric teleconnections to occur so I doubt we will see much relief between now and Autumn. The entire planet is accelerating in heating at an alarming rate but we humans apparently do not care so it's only going to get hotter. We also know that the heating planet is affecting El Niño/La Niña cycles so historical analogs should just be thrown out the window for the most part. We simply do not know how this El Niño will play out and there is no garantee we will see increased rainfall unfortunately.
On another topic, Austin got some nice wrap around scattered storms this afternoon. Starting to move out though.

Good points. Our weather, on the southern plains, seems to now be characterized by long periods of above-average temps and dry spells, interrupted by deluges. There have been (and will be) seasons or shorter periods here and there with exceptions to this, but we’re talking the longer term trend and “new normal.” Which sadly is accelerating in intensity.

So basically, the way it’s always been in the southern plains throughout recorded human history. We just seem to be in an extended period of suckitude here in SCTX- the NTX/OK guys don’t have much to complain about though.

Re: Texas Spring 2026
SPC with a Day 4 (Sunday) slight risk for northeast Texas. Doesn't look too impressive at this time. GFS keeps any precip to the north/east while the Euro does develop precip into Texas. Could have some gusty winds/small hail if anything develops.
