Nasty weather in MS

#1 Postby timNms » Thu Nov 27, 2003 8:10 am

I awoke to thunder at 4am this morning. I got up, turned on the NOAA radio and got a big surprise. My county was under a tornado warning. I sat here a few mins debating whether to wake my family or not. Suddenly the lights went off. That made my mind up! I got them up and put them in the hall. Fortunately for us, the tornado passed south of us and I haven't heard of any damage. We lost a quince tree in our yard. The tree wasn't very big, probably about 15 feet tall and about 4 inches around. Oddly, it fell from east to west, the top now lying toward the west.

Not that one tornado wasn't enough, about an hour later after everyone had gone back to bed except for my son and me, the radio alarm went off again. There was another Tornado warning for my county again, this time in about the same location. This time, however, the winds weren't bad here. I think this one went north of us.

Needless to say, it's been a wild Thanksgiving so far. I told my wife during the first warning that I might need to get the turkey out of the kitchen and take it in the hall with us LOL. I've been looking forward to eating some turkey since we bought it Monday!

Hope everyone stays safe today.

November in the Southern States sees, on average, a secondary peak in tornado season ... with the clashing of winter's arrival, and summer trying to hang on ...

I was thinking about you folks down to my
south, timNms, about 7-ish CST, this AM.
In fact, I had mentioned to my Mom, on the
phone, that MS had already had five tornado
warnings issued. We were discussing what
a scary start to Thanksgiving that you folks
were already having to deal with!

Good to see that you weren't harmed!

Wow...nasty stuff...heavy rain and maybe an isolated storm coming my way tomorrow afternoon, and tomorrow night...possibly changing to snow showers (which I'm hoping will occur) :D

Missed this thread. I am on the Gulf Coast of MS and yes it was bad Thanksgiving Eve and Day. Saw a waterspout out in the gulf but it fizzled out there. It rained ALL day Thanksgiving Day with some embedded thunder.
