Sounds like the discussion I just typed for our customers. Includes the "if necessary" clause concerning recon....


SPECIAL TROPICAL DISTURBANCE STATEMENT
NWS TPC/NATIONAL HURRICANE CENTER MIAMI FL
415 PM EST WED DEC 3 2003

SATELLITE IMAGERY AND SURFACE OBSERVATIONS INDICATE THAT AN AREA OF DISTURBED WEATHER LOCATED OVER THE SOUTHWESTERN CARIBBEAN SEA BETWEEN JAMAICA AND COLOMBIA IS BECOMING BETTER ORGANIZED. THE SYSTEM IS MOVING NORTHWARD AT ABOUT 10 MPH AND THIS GENERAL MOTION IS EXPECTED TO CONTINUE FOR THE NEXT DAY OR TWO. UPPER-LEVEL CONDITIONS ARE SOMEWHAT FAVORABLE FOR ADDITIONAL DEVELOPMENT TO OCCUR...AND A TROPICAL DEPRESSION COULD FORM DURING THE NEXT DAY OR
SO. AN AIR FORCE RESERVE UNIT RECONNAISSANCE AIRCRAFT IS SCHEDULED TO INVESTIGATE THE SYSTEM TOMORROW...<b>IF NECESSARY.</b>

Yep, I just found this in my inbox. Maybe a slow starting winter for some, but maybe a late ending cane season?

I think I remember in 1985 a depression formed in just about the same area in early December. Maybe somebody has some data on it...

No I was reffering to tropical storms not TD'S that not had formed in the caribbean in december.

You're right, no storms have formed in this area in December, though a few have formed elsewhere.
