Hidden users...

#1 Postby Guest » Thu Dec 04, 2003 12:21 pm

Just so you know, I can tell who you are, even though your status is hidden. I just saw two new posts in this forum, yet the top of the screen says I'm the only one in here. Being logged on as hidden doesn't work if you're going to post. Just so you know....

Well, you know, if they really want to be hidden from view, we can ignore them. :)

It does not necessarily mean you're hiding...if the top of the screen says you are.........I don't pay attention to that myself..........

There are a number of reasons for not wanting to be indicated at logged into the site. Having the "hiding preference" gives us the chance to not let others know we are logged in at that moment.

There is a several minute lag in the list of members listed at the top of the particular forum you are in.

It makes more sense to be hidden when there is at least on member hidden already.

If its an option I don't see why it shouldn't be used. I don't use it that often, but at times fell like it. The admins. certainly shouldn't announce those that are hidden.

When one is a guest, it says "Guest" for those that are on, but not signed in.

Only when you are logged in as invisable. Not as a guest...if your a guest you show up as a guest with your IP address. Well with IPB that is...phpBB is pretty much the same just a thinned out version of IBP.
