If Odette moves further west...

This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

If Odette moves further west than anticipated (or not), will her west side drag record cold into Florida???? 1977 all over again?

Maybe it can move into the gulf, interact with a polar airmass and become a snow cane lol. Question: Has any tropical system ever produced snow over land?

October 1841

This hurricane wreaked havoc on eastern New England, and triggered a major snow and sleet storm which buried New Haven, Connecticut.

The Long Island Hurricane

New England's Snow Hurricane of 1804 — This storm not only damaged the Chesapeake Bay, as well as Philadelphia, New York City and Boston, but it also touched off a massive snow storm that dropped more than two feet of snow on the Berkshires.

Hurricane Ginny in 1963 pulled in enough cold air to drop up to 18" of snow in the mountains of northern Maine as she made landfall in Nova Scotia.

But understand that if a storm is pulling in enough cold air to produce frozen precipitation, by definition it is no longer a tropical cyclone.

If Odette inteacts with the complex storm system taking shape in the southeast US..the influx of tropical moisture could result in a meteorlogical megabomb.

come on peeps do you think that this storm will even affect the US??? SST's not favorable shear will not help its cause and the strong fronts that will move across the US will not allow this system to keep heading N. As for FL lets look more at CUBA and E. FL may see some clouds off of it.

As for a blizzard with this system????? sorry I don't follow you.. can you explain how a tropical system in the Caribbean will be able to TAP in to a CP or let alone a CT airmass????

I am talking about what the hial2 stated.

I agree if the Moisture is pulled up into a frontal system (Becoming extratropical) it will be a very WET event in the South and Snowy North of that with your occasional FZ RA event due to the warm overunning.

Seems like Odette is drifting slowly east to me. But this may be a consolidation process, and a NNE motion may start again. Blizz in the NE and a Hurricane in the tropics perhaps. Most wonderful time of the year  If this ENE motion I suspect continues, you may have a close call Luis

PT, in 1977, snow fell on Miami..

PT, I saw snow flakes as I took a bus work in MIAMI,FL (My car's windshield was iced over, so I decided to THROW REALLY HOT WATER ON THE WINDSHIELD TO HELP IT MELT..Needless to say, I also walked to work the next day)
The high for the day was 45 degrees, also a record low high

Interesting questions. A tropical storm in December... can this year's weather get any more crazy? DON'T ANSWER THAT! :o

From what I remember, a cold wave (I think the same front associated with the Buffalo Blizzard) brought snow as far south as Fort Meyers. Miami actually got some small accumulations.

I think what they were referring to is a disturbance forcing the jet to dive way down south, bringing a similar scenario.
