Tropical weather discussion for North America...Central
America...Gulf of Mexico...Caribbean Sea...and Atlantic Ocean
to the African coast from the Equator to 32n including northern
sections of South America. The following information is based
on satellite imagery... weather observations...radar...and
meteorological analysis.
Based on 1200 UTC surface analysis and satellite imagery through
1715 UTC.
Special features...
Tropical Storm Odette is located near 14.2n 73.7w at 05/1800 UTC
moving E at 4 kt. Maximum sustained wind speed is 45 kt with
gusts to 55 kt with an estimated minimum central pressure of
995 mb. See AWIPS/wmo headers miatcmat5/wtnt25 knhc for more
details. A Ball of convection is near the center with a larger
area of tstms to the E to the center. Satellite pictures hint
that the system may be reorganizing from a central dense
overcast-type pattern to banding-type. Conditions look
marginally favorable for a bit more strengthening with moderate
shear present. Heavy rain and mudslides will likely become a
problem over Hispaniola as the cyclone edges closer to the
island during the next 24 hours. Scattered moderate is within
about 75 nm of the center with a large area of scattered to
numerous moderate with isolated strong cells from 12.5n-17.5n
between 67w-72w.
