Pearl Harbor Day

#1 Postby azsnowman » Sun Dec 07, 2003 8:25 am

It's sad, most of the world has forgotten this day, the "Day of Infamy!" I don't think they even teach in school anymore, do they? I was watching something on MSNBC not too long ago, a WWII Vet had said, "Sept 11th will go down in history like Pearl Harbor, after a few years, people will forget and they will not teach it in our schools, truly a shame!" We owe our WWII Vets that are still living, a TREMENDOUS amount........take some time today to say a little prayer for those who made the ultimate sacrife for you and I and if you see a veteran today, walk up to them, shake their hand and tell them "We haven't forgotten!"

Funny you should bring this up today. When I walked into work this morning, the first thing I said was, Happy Pearl Harbor Day. I will remember this day always.

(although there is not much that could be construed as "Happy" about this day in History)

Well sadly, I learned most of what I know about it from the movie, and that isn't even totally accurate!! I always knew of the day and the attack, but never really took the time to give it more than a passing thought.... I will most certainly extend a prayer!

There is a large cross erected at Koli Koli pass in Hawaii. Located on Schofield Barracks Army Installation that I often visited while stationed there. You could climb up in the middle of it and poke your head out the top and see the flight path that the Japanese pilots used. Hopefully the wacko's don't lobby to have that cross removed becasuse it is on Gov't property. It has a lot of meaning. It was erected as a monument to those who lost their lives in the invasion on Pearl Harbor.

Also, when I re-enlisted in the Army, I had the opportujnity to re-enlist and recite my Oath on the USS Arizona memorial, but due to circumstances beyond our control at the time. I wasn't abled to. Military History is somewhat of a passion to me. And the incident at Pearl Harbor was a very significant part of US history.

I know I don't forget it. It's always in the news here as well each year.
